Role Description The Data Steward is a full-time remote role responsible for overseeing the quality, consistency, and proper use of organizational data across systems and teams. Day-to-day, this role defines and maintains data standards, supports data governance policies, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure data is accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and external requirements. The Data Steward monitors data quality metrics, investigates data issues, and coordinates remediation activities with technical and business teams. This role also documents data definitions, lineage, and usage guidelines, and helps educate colleagues on best practices for data management. The ideal candidate will work closely with IT, operations, and business units to make data more reliable and usable for reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in data governance and data stewardship, with experience defining and enforcing data policies and standards.
Proficiency in data quality practices, including setting data quality rules, monitoring data quality metrics, and resolving data issues.
Hands-on experience with data management, such as data modeling, metadata management, and maintaining data dictionaries or catalogs.
Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex datasets, identify patterns, and support data-driven decision-making.
Familiarity with data tools or platforms (e.g., SQL, data catalogs, BI tools) and basic understanding of databases and data integration concepts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a methodical approach to documentation and process improvement.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience working in remote, distributed teams and the ability to manage time and priorities independently.
Knowledge of compliance or regulatory considerations related to data (e.g., privacy, security) is an advantage.
