Position Summary:
The Drive Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, commissioning, troubleshooting, and support of variable frequency drives (VFDs) and other motor control systems within our projects and service offerings. This role requires a strong technical background in electrical engineering, a deep understanding of industrial automation, and the ability to work effectively with clients in the assigned sectors. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineer and configure variable frequency drives (VFDs) and other motor control equipment based on project specifications and client requirements.
Participate in the design and implementation of electrical and automation systems for industrial projects, particularly within the Sugar, Power, Cement, and Metal industries.
Perform site commissioning of drive systems, ensuring proper functionality and integration with overall control systems.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for drive-related issues at customer sites.
Conduct retrofits and upgrades of existing drive systems.
Collaborate with the sales and service teams to propose technical solutions for service contracts, equipment upgrades, and spare parts supply related to drive systems.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with plant maintenance and project teams at customer sites as the technical expert for drive systems.
Stay updated on the latest drive technologies and industry best practices.
Contribute to the identification of new opportunities for drive system upgrades and replacements within the installed base.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation Engineering or related field.
3-5 years of hands-on experience in engineering, commissioning, and troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
Strong understanding of process industries (Sugar, Power, Cement, Metals) and their electrical and automation requirements.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills related to electrical drive systems.
Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and internal teams.
Customer-centric approach with a focus on providing effective technical solutions.
Willingness to travel extensively to customer sites for commissioning and support.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with specific VFD brands and control platforms relevant to the target industries.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
Experience with PLC and DCS systems and their integration with drive systems.
Expose to ABB VFD’s.
