Manager - Copywriting, Sports

The Sports Copywriter will be responsible for creating compelling, fan-first content across on-air promotions, digital platforms, social media, and marketing campaigns. The role requires a strong understanding of sports, particularly cricket, audience behaviour, and the ability to turn sporting moments and narratives into engaging, culturally relevant content across formats.
What you’ll do:
Create engaging copy for sports campaigns, digital content, advertising, social media, and other sports initiatives
Develop long-form content including articles, features, player stories, editorial pieces, and other storytelling formats
Create creative taglines, punchlines, campaign messaging, and promotional copy tailored to the target audience
Script and storyboard content for videos, teasers, promos, and other sports-related audiovisual projects
Develop timely content around live sporting events, tournaments, athlete updates, and major sporting moments
Translate complex sporting action, statistics, and narratives into simple, engaging, and emotionally resonant storytelling
Stay current with national and international sports trends, particularly cricket, kabaddi, football, and Olympic sports
Collaborate with designers, marketers, social media, video, and editorial teams to create cohesive storytelling across platforms
Maintain consistency in brand voice, editorial quality, accuracy, and cultural relevance across content
Edit and proofread content while ensuring quick turnaround, particularly during live matches and major sporting events
Adapt content across different formats, platforms, audiences, and stages of the sports content lifecycle
Skills & attributes for success:
Strong copywriting and storytelling skills, with the ability to create sharp, engaging, audience-first content
Strong understanding of sports, particularly cricket and marquee sporting events such as IPL and ICC tournaments
Ability to turn live sporting moments and complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives
Strong creative instincts with excellent attention to detail
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and real-time content requirements
Understanding of audience behaviour and content consumption across broadcast, digital, and social platforms
Ability to adapt writing style and tone across different formats and audiences
Strong editorial judgement, proofreading, and content-quality skills
Basic understanding of digital and social media content formats
Proficiency in the relevant content language(s), with strong written and spoken communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with creative, editorial, marketing, design, and video teams
Qualifications & experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Literature, or a related field
Experience in copywriting, content writing, editorial, or creative content, preferably within sports, media, broadcast, entertainment, or digital
Portfolio demonstrating strong writing and storytelling across multiple formats is mandatory
