Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby), AI Engineering: DAP Repository Flows

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer (Ruby), AI Engineering: DAP Repository Flows to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.
This role will shape backend architecture and technical direction for a remote-first team focused on AI-enabled engineering workflows. You will lead design and delivery efforts that improve how autonomous agents interact with customer codebases, while strengthening onboarding and shared platform capabilities.
The position is highly collaborative, with close partnership across adjacent teams to evolve interfaces, improve system quality, and support scalable delivery in a distributed environment.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $135,000 – $160,000 annually
Responsibilities
Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for the team
Lead design and delivery of autonomous agents for customer codebases
Enhance the onboarding process for quick project setup
Collaborate with other teams on shared interfaces and platform capabilities
Mentor engineers and elevate overall technical quality of the team
Identify and address key technical challenges proactively
Foster a culture emphasizing autonomy and async-first collaboration
Qualifications
5-7 years of hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production systems
Proven experience with product integration of large language models (LLMs)
Background in building autonomous or semi-autonomous agentic systems
Record of designing and deploying complex, high-scale systems
Strong written communication skills for effective remote collaboration
