WHS Officer

Description
The WHS Officer will partner directly with site operations teams (First Mile/Middle Mile/Last Mile) to implement company safety policies, ensure compliance with all local and regional regulations, and maintain a secure, healthful work environment. Leveraging lean principles and kaizen methodologies, this individual contributor will independently lead continuous improvement initiatives to mitigate conditional and ergonomic risks in processes,
utilizing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis to influence operational changes. The role requires good communication skills to deliver clear, consistent messages verbally and in writing, train Operations Leaders on safety protocols, and integrate best practices into company standards. Proven ability in teamwork, analytical thinking, sound judgment, and customer-focused problem-solving is essential to effectively collaborate across functions and drive meaningful safety outcomes. The WHS Officer will apply expertise in safety programs,
environmental compliance, and ergonomics to support site teams, ensuring adherence to Amazon's safety frameworks while driving a culture of proactive risk management and operational excellence.
Key job responsibilities
Ensure compliance with Amazon Safety Policies, standards, and applicable local/regional/national regulations through direct guidance and oversight.
Support assigned site(s) in implementing Amazon WHS procedures as directed by WHS leadership.
Partner with site stakeholders to drive compliance with WHS standards, procedures, and local laws.
Conduct comprehensive site walks engaging associates on hazard observation, coaching on WHS
requirements, ergonomic postures, and Permit to Work compliance.
Conduct frequent site safety inspections and audits to identify non-compliant equipment or processes.
Complete area readiness checks for the Wellness Room and replenish supplies as needed.
Conduct risk assessments for all processes and update them for change management at defined frequencies.
Implement corrective solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries across facilities.
Initiate corrective actions for findings identified during standard work implementation.
Analyze weekly/monthly/quarterly safety metrics and incident trends to prioritize resource allocation to high-risk areas.
Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and develop action plans to address deficiencies.
Complete assigned tasks and stretch assignments to advance site safety goals.
Assist in conducting safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
Coach associates on new/existing WHS requirements and their operational impact.
Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement and collaboration with stakeholders to resolve safety barriers.
Maintain all records related to safety operations (regulatory/non regulatory inspections, audits, SOPs).
Support the site safety manager in timely reporting of compliance status to leadership.
Implement Kaizen or other initiatives to strengthen workplace conditions and safety performance.
Deliver on-time, high-quality projects to support Operations teams.
Collaborate with site operations and WHS leadership to address day-to-day risks and escalate compliance issues through inspections/audits.
Complete peak readiness actions, provide updates, and contribute to lesson-learned sessions.
Be flexible to work rotational shifts to ensure continuous site safety coverage for operations.
For roles in last-mile and Amazon Fresh sites, manage multiple small sites within a city as required

Daily Deep Dive of metrics, Site safety audit / inspections, Incident reporting and investigation, Training, TBT, FGDs, Startups at site, AWHS committee meeting, Communication on required safety matters, Safety compliance adherence with respect to Amazon WHS Policies and procedures, PPE issuance and compliance, Risk Assessment, Inventory management and procurement of safety supplies
About The Team
Workplace, Health & Safety - Amazon India Operations
Basic Qualifications
Speak, write, and read fluently in English
Bachelor's degree in science or equivalent
2+ years of experience in Workplace Health and Safety
Preferred Qualifications
Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or Diploma in Fire or EHS from recognized institute
Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization
Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
Fulfillment Center or Manufacturing Safety experience with mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 200 people preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.
