The Role:
We are looking for a placement student to fulfil the role of Student Mechanical Design Engineer within the Mechanical Design Team.
This placement would suit a student looking to gain experience within Product Development and Manufacturing. With suitable support, you will participate in the day-to-day activities of the team. This will involve, CAD Modelling/Drafting, Prototyping, Testing, Documentation, Bills of Materials and Change Management.
Typical degree courses would include: CAD based Design/Engineering courses, such as Design Engineering, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering.
Main functions:
You will be assigned project work by the Mechanical Desing Manager comprising new design projects and projects to support the manufacture of existing products.
You will use Creo Parametric for 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting software as your main design tool. Experience of this specific software is not essential, some experience of 3D CAD modelling software (such as Solidworks or Fusion 360) is required.
You will use Windchill PLM software to create and maintain Bills of Materials and participate in the companies Change Management process.
Prototype project work using in-house 3D printing, CNC routing, and various workshop tools (with support of on-site technicians).
Testing of prototypes to ensure compliance with various standards (with support of on-site technicians).
Assist the Production Engineering team with the design and manufacture of jigs and fixtures.
Job Conditions:
You are expected to work at the company head office in High Wycombe on a full-time basis 37.5 hours per week, over the standard working hours of 8.45am to 5.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.45pm to 4pm on Friday. An hour is allowed for lunch Monday to Thursday and 45 minutes on Friday.
You will report to the Mechanical Design Manager.
