Software Engineer for Rail IoT Devices (Passenger Information Systems)
As a leading provider of passenger information systems for the rail industry, we deliver solutions that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient passenger communication. As a Software Engineer for Rail IoT Devices, you will contribute to the software foundations of interior and exterior display systems that provide real‑time, high‑quality information to millions of travelers in mission‑critical rail environments.
Responsibilities
Work hands-on with Linux-based embedded systems, including configuration, diagnostics, debugging, networking, and performance analysis.
Define, configure, and optimize software solutions for rail-grade passenger information devices across a variety of hardware platforms.
Investigate complex system behavior across software, hardware, embedded platforms, and networked environments to identify underlying causes and drive sustainable improvements.
Contribute to customer projects for major suppliers in the global rail industry.
Support customer projects for major suppliers in the global rail industry by analyzing system interactions and improving reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Collaborate closely with system engineering, hardware and test teams to ensure seamless operation of end-to-end solutions.
Use AI-supported tools to improve engineering efficiency, troubleshooting workflows, and solution quality.
Evaluate new technologies, tools, and approaches to improve product robustness and long-term maintainability.
Profile requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable field (electrotechnical background is a plus).
Strong technical curiosity and a passion for understanding how complex systems work.
Hands-on troubleshooting skills and a structured approach to problem-solving.
Solid experience with Linux-based systems, software configuration, or solution architecture in embedded environments.
Strong C++ skills and a solid understanding of software fundamentals.
Interest in software-hardware interaction and system integration.
Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new technologies, tools, and technical domains.
Ability to systematically explore and understand complex technical environments.
Knowledge of software architecture and design principles is a plus.
Strong communication skills and team orientation.
C1-level English.
