About the Department
Common diagnoses in the Infectious Disease Unit include cellulitis, sepsis, HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, infected ulcers and any other fungal, bacterial and viral infections. This 23-bed unit hosts 12 negative pressure rooms and treats patients 15 years and older. The staff specialize in caring for special pathogens including MERS and multi-drug resistant organisms. Nursing assistants on this unit develop many skills by caring for patients with complex medical conditions. Many health systems do not have a special pathogen or an infectious disease unit, giving a unique professional experience and a great learning opportunity for all levels.
Role Overview
As a Nurse Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). You'll assist in delivering patient care, respond to emergent situations, and contribute to care planning. Your work directly supports our nursing teams and enhances the patient experience, making a meaningful impact in healthcare delivery.

What You Will Do
Assist the RN in performing specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs.
Provide input to help plan and implement patient care.
Respond to emergent situations following established procedures.
Participate in ongoing education to enhance your skills and knowledge.

What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician or Patient Assistant Technician) OR currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing OR foreign trained and licensed RN without a Michigan RN license OR Medical Assistant program with or without experience OR at least one (1) year of previous experience in a similar role.
Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
CNA certification preferred.
