Job Description:
The Student Advising Director for Business Advising is the lead professional advisor supporting students within an academic college/area of responsibility. The Student Advising Director is an active member of the University’s Advising Leadership Team and their respective College’s/area’s Leadership Team. This position proactively engages with students by establishing meaningful connections, demonstrating care, coordinating support, and assisting in removing individual barriers to success. This position manages and provides advising services, and implements student-first practices that advance student equity, retention, completion, and success. This position works with students from prospect to alumni, and assists students in integrating information, accessing resources, making enrollment choices, and determining academic program pathways to completion. This position holistically and comprehensively supports and advises students and intentionally contributes to a meaningful student experience. The Student Advising Director is a liaison to and resource for faculty, staff, and administrators, both within a college/area of responsibility and across the University. This position leads and supports projects and initiatives within an academic college/area of responsibility and across the university, particularly those focused on advising and student success. The Student Advising Director serves as an advising expert and student success resource for an academic college/area of responsibility with extensive knowledge of college, university and Minnesota State system academic and student policies, procedures, and practices. Additionally, the Student Advising Director utilizes student degree planning and completion tools and knowledge of University systems, processes, and resources to advance student success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree (conferred by the time of hire) and three (3) years of academic advising and/or student support experience, OR Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in academic advising and/or student support areas.
Demonstrated commitment to students with diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first generation students, students with disabilities, and/or international students.
Preferred Qualification:
Professional academic advising experience;
Demonstrated commitment to supporting students and their success;
Demonstrated experience with fostering a diverse working and learning environment;
Working knowledge of student development and student life concerns;
Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated abilities to communicate effectively with many different constituents – including students, faculty, staff, administrators;
Evidence of successful experience working with a wide variety of student support services;
Ability to interpret and implement University academic policies related to student academic standing, progressing, and completion;
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills;
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new information and interpret it with attention to detail and accuracy.
