BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of a Supervisor, helps spot and unload trucks, performs general cleanup, maintenance and unskilled labor tasks at the Transfer Station.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
-Direct drivers in backing and unloading of trucks at transfer station.
-Screening incoming waste and safely removing tires and metal for separation and recycling.
-Operate backhoe and/or wheel loader for cleaning up trash spills and recycling materials.
-Helps in cleaning of Transfer Station – interior and exterior.
-Performs minor repairs, painting, litter control and miscellaneous duties as required.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
General Experience:
-Must have the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers. Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of eighth grade.
Specific Experience:
-Prior backhoe or loader experience is preferred.

Experience Requirement:
-Pickup, backhoe, wheel loader. Possession of a valid Texas driver's license is required.
Education Requirement:
High School Diploma or GED
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical surroundings:
-Operations of the solid waste department occur year-round, in all types of weather, at a municipal waste processing environment.
Equipment:
-Pickup, backhoe, wheel loader, shovel, pitchfork, rake, water hose, broom, grinder and othe small hand tools. Wear safety vests, hard hat, safety glasses, safety work boots, gloves, misc.
Adverse working environment:
-Operations of the solid waste department occur year-round, in all types of weather, at a municipal waste processing environment. Must be capable of working in areas of extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and odors at times.
Physical Effort
-Requires a variety of sitting and/or standing while working, based upon assignment, for long periods of time. Requires lifting materials of up to 75 pounds and could involve heavier lifting of over 100 pounds with assistance, ability to pull with a force of at least 94 pounds, and throwing materials overhead into the back of a truck. Regular and punctual attendance is required of this job.
