We are seeking a cool-headed and self-motivated Linux System Administrator to join our team and help maintain, develop, and support our Linux-based infrastructure for services for sensitive data management. This role is suited for someone with hands-on experience managing production environments and who is comfortable troubleshooting issues independently.
Our group provides sensitive data management services, for example on human genomes and health data consented for research purpose. We work closely with Finnish biobanks, research institutes and other national stakeholders to provide the necessary capacity to process, analyse, store and share data in a secure manner. Key Responsibilities:
Your main responsibilities are in day-to-day administration of Linux servers and services in production environments, monitoring system health, performance and capacity, and troubleshooting operating system, application, and network related issues. You will manage users, permissions, storage, and system updates, participate in incident resolution and root cause analysis, and automate routine operational tasks. Working closely with development and infrastructure teams and maintaining technical documentation and operational procedures are at the core of your work.
What we expect:
We require solid experience administering Linux systems and strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. A good understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, routing, and firewall concepts is required, as well as experience with shell scripting (Bash) and a willingness to automate repetitive work. Understanding of system security, patch management, and access control is a necessity, and familiarity with virtualization platforms and infrastructure—e.g. kernel virtual machines and Kubernetes—operations are also expected. In addition, we're also asking for experience with monitoring, logging, and performance analysis tools, and that you can work independently and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
