We are currently seeking a Law Clerk to join our Peterborough office.

Role (Overview of the Position)
The Wills & Estates Law Clerk plays a critical role in supporting lawyers with a wide range of estate planning and administration matters. Key areas of focus include preparing wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents; assisting with probate and estate administration; maintaining accurate records; coordinating with clients and third parties; and ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities (Tasks Associated with the Role)
Assist with the preparation and execution of wills, powers of attorney, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
Assist with estate administration and probate matters, including preparing applications and supporting documentation, maintaining checklists, tracking deadlines, and organizing estate files.
Gather and organize information relating to estate assets, liabilities, beneficiaries, and testamentary documents, including conducting searches through relevant government agencies, financial institutions, land registries, and corporate registries.
Assist with estate accounting, including preparing statements of assets and liabilities, receipts and releases, distributions, and other related documentation.
Prepare correspondence and communicate with clients, estate trustees, beneficiaries, financial institutions, government agencies, accountants, and other third parties to obtain information, provide updates, and coordinate estate matters.
Assist with the transfer, sale, and distribution of estate assets, including real property, corporate interests, investments, and personal property.
Assist with estate tax matters and clearance certificate applications, including coordinating with accountants and the Canada Revenue Agency as required.
Research and interpret legal procedures, statutes, rules, and regulations relating to wills, estates, probate, and trusts.
Provide administrative support to lawyers, including organizing files, preparing signature packages, coordinating will signings, scheduling meetings, and managing correspondence.
Maintain accurate records of estate assets, distributions, undertakings, deadlines, and outstanding matters, and assist with the preparation of reporting and closing documentation.
Maintain and update wills and estates precedents under the supervision of a lawyer to standardize processes and improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications/Skills & Experience
A diploma in a related Legal Administration and/or Law Clerk program is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a corporate clerk role, within a legal environment.
Have experience in or knowledge of the following programs: Microsoft Office, Ecore, Treefort, Clio, Teraview, Notice Connect, and Ministry/Government search and registration platforms.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Detail oriented with strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to take initiative and work under pressure with minimal supervision.

Compensation: This position offers a starting salary range of $45,000 to $60,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s education, relevant experience, and skills.
