The HMH Legal & Compliance Department is interested in developing and fostering long-term relationships with top law students throughout the U.S. for possible future employment, or simply to become acquainted with the next generation of lawyers who may work for our customers, suppliers and in government.
The Legal Intern responsibilities will include:
Learning how to operate in an in-house corporate legal department
Assisting the members of the HMH Legal & Compliance Department with day-to-day activities
Meeting and contacting the lawyers within the HMH Legal & Compliance Department
Participating in the reviewing and drafting of legal contracts and documents
Assisting in the preparation of materials for IPO readiness
Attending and participating in negotiations with customers and suppliers
Performing legal research as needed
Assisting and supporting with other activities as needed
The Intern deliverables will be:
Revisions to draft contracts, agreements and corporate documents
Revisions to HMH policies and procedures
Drafts of miscellaneous letters and correspondence
PowerPoints and slide decks as needed
Skills/Requirements
Currently enrolled and working toward completion of a Law Degree from an accredited university or college.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Excellent interpersonal skills to drive collaboration across multiple functions to achieve desired results.
Ability to work independently or within a larger team as required by the project and subsystem.
Familiarity with Microsoft office products, i.e., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication.
Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Additional Information
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, now or in the future, without employer sponsorship for employment visa status.
