WGL - Senior Associate Legal Counsel, Commercial Transactions
As Senior Associate Legal Counsel, you'll play a key role in supporting the business across a diverse portfolio of legal matters. From commercial transactions and infrastructure projects to real estate and emerging business initiatives, you'll be a trusted advisor to teams throughout the organization. This role is well suited to a lawyer who is adaptable, collaborative, and energized by the opportunity to work across a wide range of topics in a dynamic and evolving industry.
What You'll Do
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements supporting utility operations, engineering, construction, procurement, and strategic initiatives
Provide practical, business-focused legal advice that balances risk management with operational objectives
Support infrastructure and growth projects through legal guidance on commercial, real estate, and land use matters
Partner with stakeholders across engineering, construction, procurement, real estate, compliance, and regulatory teams
Contribute to emerging areas of the business, including infrastructure modernization, renewable natural gas initiatives, and large customer developments
Share knowledge, improve processes, and help strengthen the capabilities of the legal team
What You'll Bring
Juris Doctor and 5+ years of experience in commercial, infrastructure, real estate, energy, or related legal practice
Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar and the ability to practice in DC, Maryland, or Virginia
Strong commercial contracting and legal advisory experience, ideally within energy, utilities, infrastructure, or similarly complex industries
Sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage matters independently while knowing when to escalate risk
A collaborative mindset and the ability to build relationships across diverse business functions
Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to jump into new challenges, wear many hats, and develop expertise across a broad range of legal and business topics

The role offers a competitive salary range of $165,400 to $223,300 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, this position is eligible for our Short-Term Incentive compensation program. Employees also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and wellness coverage, retirement savings programs, and paid time off.
