Technical Project Manager

Our team has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Project Manager to manage materials testing and analytical service projects for customers across industries including semiconductor, aerospace & defense, and medical device.
This is a customer-facing role that combines technical knowledge, project management, and problem-solving. You will serve as a primary point of contact for customers while coordinating with scientists, engineers, Sales, Project Coordinators, Operations, and partner laboratories to keep projects moving from initial scope through final delivery.
You will help define project requirements, coordinate technical resources, monitor schedules, review and interpret analytical data, and make sure results clearly address the customer's original objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage customer projects from initial scope through final reporting and follow-up.
Partner with Sales and technical teams to define project scope, deliverables, testing requirements, and timelines.
Coordinate internal technical resources, service lines, sites, and external partner labs to keep projects on schedule.
Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout the project.
Communicate with customers to:
Clarify technical needs and project objectives.
Provide project status updates.
Review results and explain technical findings.
Discuss potential next steps or additional testing when appropriate.
Coordinate with Project Coordinators to manage sample flow and project activities across multiple laboratories and service lines.
Review and interpret analytical data for accuracy, relevance, and completeness.
Prepare clear, consolidated customer reports or presentations that summarize results and connect findings back to the original problem.
Manage multiple customer projects at the same time while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Work closely with technical and commercial teams to resolve project issues and meet customer expectations.
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the project lifecycle.
Support customer visits and business development activities with Sales and Operations as needed.

Work Location & Relocation
Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the work location on a regular basis.

Education, Experience & Skills
M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
2+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a customer-facing role involving materials-related technical problems, analytical testing, failure analysis, product development, or materials characterization.
Experience working in analytical services, materials testing, or failure analysis environments preferred.
Experience working directly with customers to understand technical needs and communicate project results.
Ability to understand and explain complex technical data to customers with different levels of technical expertise.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Ability to coordinate across scientists, engineers, commercial teams, and other stakeholders.
Comfortable working independently while knowing when to engage senior technical resources.
Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Ability to build collaborative relationships with customers and internal teams.
WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART?
Experience with failure analysis, materials characterization, or analytical testing.
Knowledge of a broad range of analytical techniques.
Hands-on experience with one or more analytical or materials characterization techniques.
Experience coordinating projects across multiple laboratories, technical disciplines, or locations.
Experience supporting legal or expert witness projects is a plus.

Compensation is aligned with market standards for the region and tailored to individual qualifications and experience.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.)
Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.
