The IT Engineer is responsible for keeping Skillable’s internal technology running so employees can do their best work. Own the hands-on engineering behind identity, devices, and the everyday apps the team relies on. Lead complex technical issues, investigations through resolution, and serve as an escalation point for the IT Service Desk. Build and support the tools and automation that make internal IT faster and easier to use. Ensure employees are productive, secure, and unblocked through good engineering and thoughtful automation that enables IT to scale efficiently.
What You Will Do
Plan, coordinate and monitor changes to IT systems, processes, and infrastructure to ensure smooth implementation and minimize operational disruption and risk.
Proactively identify options to create automation and operational efficiencies in servicing end users while assessing risks associated with proposed changes and develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential issues.
Partner with IT teams, business units and stakeholders to understand change requirements, communicate impacts, and address concerns throughout the change process.
Support and maintain a broad range of IT systems and infrastructure, including hardware, servers, operating systems, networking, telecommunications, and databases.
Analyze, evaluate, and recommend IT tools, technologies, and infrastructure improvements to support business needs.
Manage and monitor security solutions, including firewalls, antivirus, endpoint protection, and intrusion prevention systems.
Participate in IT projects and initiatives focused on improving system reliability, security, efficiency, and scalability.
Manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune, including user accounts, licenses, groups, permissions, authentication, and access policies.
Deploy, configure, secure and maintain Windows and Mac devices through Intune and Iru, ensuring devices remain compliant and supported.
Provide technical support for employees and own IT issues from initial investigation through resolution, including escalated issues; identify and address root causes to prevent recurring problems.
Administer SaaS applications, including user access, SSO configuration, account provisioning and deprovisioning, and application integrations.
Build, deploy and operate AI tools and agentic workflows that automate routine IT processes and improve internal productivity.
Establish and maintain AI governance practices, including appropriate guardrails, logging, access controls, usage monitoring, and cost management.
Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI and automation across internal IT, improving efficiency, reducing repetitive work, and enhancing employee experience.
Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and identify practical ways to incorporate them into IT workflows, tools, and processes.
Partner with People and Security teams to manage employee onboarding, role changes, access updates, and offboarding across internal systems.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation, knowledge articles, and runbooks to support consistent operations and enable self-service.
Monitor the health, performance, availability, and stability of internal systems and infrastructure; proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact employees.
Manage Skillable’s Azure environment and infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), maintaining reliable, secure, and repeatable cloud configurations.
Integrate internal systems and applications using SAML, OIDC, APIs, and other identity and automation technologies.
Support and promote the company values through positive interactions with both internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis.
Other strategic business initiatives or special cross-functional project involvement as required.
What You Bring To The Role
Bachelor’s degree in related field (information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of relevant experience in IT engineering, with hands-on experience supporting identity, devices, internal applications, complex technical issues, IT automation, and escalations, with a focus on improving productivity, security, and scalability.
Experience identifying and implementing opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve IT processes and productivity.
Hands-on experience building or deploying AI-powered tools, automations, or agentic workflows to gain operational efficiencies.
Understanding of AI governance, including access controls, security guardrails, usage monitoring, and cost management.
Demonstrated ability to proactively identify opportunities to improve internal IT systems and processes through technology and automation.
Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune.
Experience supporting Windows and Mac devices with MDM tools such as Intune or Iru.
Working knowledge of identity and access fundamentals, including single sign-on, MFA, and conditional access
Proficiency scripting and automating with PowerShell.
Strong troubleshooting across accounts, devices, networks, and applications.
Self-motivation and the ability to contribute effectively with minimal supervision in a remote team.
Experience with the following is appreciated but not strictly required: AI-assisted IT workflows, Python, Power Automate, Bash, and Microsoft certifications (MS-900, MD-102, MS-102).
Experience working cross-functionally and promoting collaborative partnerships to drive results.
Ability to present and convey technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences and all levels of an organization.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines.
Strong Microsoft suite experience, including teams or similar web conferencing and internal communication software experience.
Thorough understanding (or willingness to learn expeditiously) of business operations and processes.
Salary Range
The base salary for this position is $90,000 - $115,000 annually. Consistent with applicable laws, compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level, relevant skills, qualifications, and experience along with requirements for the position and annual financial plans.
Skillable is a distributed first team with employees working across the U.S., and we do not consider geography when determining compensation ranges.
Pay range and current benefit offerings are effective for 90 days from posting date. Standard employment offerings are subject to potential change upon periodic review and analysis, at the discretion of Skillable.
