About the Role
The Chief Technology & Innovation Officer will lead Empowered Futures' technology strategy and digital innovation efforts. This role will be responsible for identifying and implementing technology solutions that improve organizational efficiency, enhance the experience of mentors and mentees, strengthen data management, and support the organization's long-term growth.
The CTIO will work closely with the CEO, executive leadership, People & Culture, Programs, Talent Acquisition, Marketing, and other functional teams to understand organizational needs and translate them into practical technology solutions.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on technology leader who is passionate about using technology to create social impact and is comfortable working in a growing, volunteer-driven nonprofit environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute EF’s technology strategy and roadmap in alignment with organizational goals and growth plans.
Assess current technology infrastructure, platforms, and processes and identify opportunities for improvement, integration, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Provide strategic oversight of EF Connect and other digital platforms including EF website supporting mentors, mentees, volunteers, and organizational operations.
Lead technology innovation initiatives, including the responsible adoption of AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual processes across teams to improve efficiency and user experience.
Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to understand organizational needs and translate them into practical technology solutions.
Lead and oversee technology projects from requirements gathering and planning through implementation, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
Establish and maintain appropriate data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, access controls, and business continuity practices.
Evaluate and recommend technology tools, software, platforms, integrations, and vendors while considering EF’s operational needs, scalability, and available resources.
Meet the team periodically and provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to volunteers and team members involved in technology initiatives.
Build and manage relationships with external developers, vendors, consultants, technology organizations, and potential strategic/pro-bono partners.
Support technology budgeting, resource planning, risk management, and prioritization of technology initiatives.
Establish technology standards, documentation, and performance measures while continuously identifying opportunities to use technology to enhance EF’s programs, mentor/mentee engagement, operational effectiveness, and social impact.
What We're Looking For
10+ years of professional experience in technology, IT, software, digital transformation, product management, engineering, data, or a related field.
Experience developing or implementing technology strategies, systems, or digital solutions.
Strong understanding of technology operations, data management, cybersecurity, and digital platforms.
Experience leading cross-functional technology projects.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to translate business or organizational needs into practical technology solutions.
Ability to work independently in a remote and volunteer-driven environment.
Strong interest in using technology to create positive social impact.

Commitment
This is an unpaid volunteer leadership position, requiring approximately 8 hours per week. The role is fully remote and requires the ability to collaborate effectively with a distributed volunteer team.
The successful candidate is expected to attend the weekly team meeting and Leadership Team meeting, actively participate in discussions, and contribute to key organizational and program initiatives.
