Job Description
The Lab and Field Applications Scientist is a technically oriented role that supports dissolution and diffusion products through a combination of sales enablement, customer-facing technical support, field engagement, troubleshooting support and in-house laboratory work. This position serves as a key technical resource for the sales team, customers, distributors, service personnel, and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include supporting sales and customer meetings through virtual product discussions, technical in person presentations, and field application guidance; participating in customer visits and field demonstrations; developing and communicating application data; assisting with product testing and development; executing laboratory procedures; supporting customer and distributor training; and maintaining a strong working knowledge of instrument hardware, software, operation, applications, and related laboratory workflows. This is an onsite job position, except when required to travel outside to visit customer sites.
RESULTS EXPECTED:
This position is responsible for the following duties with limited direction and guidance from the Product Line Manager and the Senior Chemist – Dissolution and Diffusion. This role requires the ability to communicate technical information clearly in video meetings, support customers and sales representatives in the field, and complete assigned laboratory responsibilities when not engaged in customer-facing activities.
Respond to customer and sales team inquiries regarding dissolution and diffusion products, applications, workflows, troubleshooting and technical capabilities. Design, develop, and perform dissolution and diffusion procedures and communicate these results to customers and in-house personnel by writing application notes, e-mails and letters, and presentations. Create and present training on products to other in-house and distributors field personnel. Prepare and deliver virtual and in-person technical presentations, product demonstrations, seminars, and customer application discussions; support sales representatives during video meetings, field sales calls, trade shows, and customer visits. As the subject matter expert on instruments, write, review and approve associated SOPs. Train in-house and distributor service personnel in pertinent SOPs. Provide insight into and relay customer perspective and needs to the Product Line Manager and work together to assist with product development. Perform instruments/software demonstrations and train customers in the use of instruments and associated software. Perform duties as needed to evaluate competitive products. Generate competitive product information and analysis with current information to inform Product Manager of any additions, deletions, or suspected inadequacies Identify and provide basic input on sales tools, technical materials, sales collateral, media and other promotional materials and campaigns Perform in-house laboratory responsibilities when not supporting field or customer-facing activities, including application testing, feasibility work, product evaluations, instrument setup, routine laboratory maintenance, supply ordering, and cleanup. Responsible for other duties assigned by the Senior Chemist that are within the knowledge level of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry.
Qualifications:
Requires experience in either drug dissolution or diffusion procedures in the pharmaceutical industry. Requires a working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation including HPLC, MS, and UV/Vis Spectroscopy and field service activities. Minimum requirements are a BS degree with more than 2 years of chemical/engineering laboratory experience in pharmaceutical industry. Sales or sales support experience preferred. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Willingness to travel to customer sites, conferences, trade shows, and training events to provide technical sales support, customer training, field demonstrations, and application guidance. Must communicate the results of assigned tasks in clear and concise English through oral, verbal and written reports, posters, presentations, reviewed publications, promotional literature and web-based communication. Collaborate, communicate and work effectively with other team members and departments. Must become completely familiar with installation/assembly of entire dissolution/diffusion product line. Self-motivated, pro-active, result-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimum direction. An approachable, engaging, and effective listener. Strong computer skills. Strong customer service mentality.
Salary Range:
$62,800.00-$83,700.000
The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
