About The Role
Provoke Solutions is seeking a Data Modeler to design governed, analytics-ready Gold models within Microsoft Fabric. In this role, you will transform Silver-layer data contracts and source mappings into well-structured dimensional models that support reliable, high-quality analytics and Power BI reporting.
This is a modeling-first position focused on dimensional design, SQL, data governance, and data quality. You will partner with data engineers, analysts, and reporting teams to build scalable data models with clear lineage, defined reconciliation rules, and trusted business metrics.
We are looking for a consultant who combines strong dimensional modeling expertise with a collaborative, AI-first mindset and the ability to deliver high-quality solutions in a client-facing environment.
What You’ll Do
Design star-schema and dimensional models in Microsoft Fabric Gold Lakehouse (Delta), defining fact grain, dimensions, surrogate and business keys, relationships, and cardinality.
Establish Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) Type 1 and Type 2 behavior, transaction and snapshot fact patterns, measure definitions, and strategies for late-arriving and unknown dimension members.
Translate Silver-layer data contracts and source-to-target mappings into governed Gold models optimized for Fabric and BI consumption.
Use SQL, Spark SQL, and PySpark as needed to develop, validate, and reconcile Gold-layer tables.
Collaborate with Power BI teams on semantic models and Direct Lake consumption to ensure reporting is performant, consistent, and trustworthy.
Document data lineage, source dependencies, and modeling decisions to support governance, ownership, and impact analysis.
Define data quality rules, reconciliation requirements, thresholds, and expected balances as part of the modeling process.
Evaluate and modernize legacy SQL and stored-procedure models for scalable, analytics-ready lakehouse architectures.
Partner with client stakeholders, engineers, and analysts to align data models with business requirements and delivery expectations.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience.
Strong experience with dimensional and Kimball-style data modeling in production analytics environments.
Proven ability to define and defend fact grain, key strategies, relationships, SCD patterns, and fact table design.
Strong SQL skills for data modeling, validation, and reconciliation against source systems and Silver-layer contracts.
Experience delivering data models for BI and reporting, ideally with Power BI and semantic-model design.
Ability to translate data contracts and source mappings into governed Gold-layer models with documented lineage and data quality expectations.
Consulting or multi-client delivery experience, including stakeholder collaboration, adapting to existing data environments, and delivering within engagement constraints.
Exposure to Microsoft Fabric governance, including workspaces, domains, endorsements, and CI/CD for lakehouse and SQL artifacts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Delta tables, SQL endpoint, and workspace patterns for Gold-layer delivery.
Familiarity with Delta Lake and lakehouse concepts, including ACID transactions, merge patterns, and medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
Experience with Power BI Direct Lake or related Import/DirectQuery semantic modeling.
Familiarity with PySpark for data transformation and implementation when needed.
Experience modernizing or migrating legacy data warehouse models and stored procedures into contemporary lakehouse architectures.
An AI-first mindset and an interest in leveraging AI tools to improve development, problem-solving, and delivery.
What Success Looks Like
Gold models with clearly defined grain, keys, and SCD behavior that analysts can use confidently without rework.
Documented lineage and source dependencies that support governance, auditability, and change impact analysis.
Explicit data quality and reconciliation criteria established and agreed upon before delivery or go-live.
Semantic models aligned with Gold-layer design to deliver consistent, reliable reporting.
A consultant who learns quickly, adapts to evolving client needs, and contributes across modeling, stakeholder engagement, and delivery.
