NOTE: THIS POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR REMOTE WORK FOR INDIVIDUALS LIVING BEYOND A 30 MILE RADIUS OF A PHYSICAL NUSCALE OFFICE BUT WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Thermal‑Hydraulics Engineer 3 is an experienced technical contributor within the Nuclear Methods group of the Nuclear Fuels organization. Reporting to the Manager, Nuclear Methods, the engineer works in close coordination with the Thermal Hydraulics, Nuclear Design, and Code Development groups, as well as partners across other Engineering disciplines, Licensing, and Operations. This position is an engineer with experience in nuclear thermal-hydraulic analyses, codes, and methods, as well as familiar with interfaces with core design, neutronics, and design basis event analysis. This role will apply industry best-practices and knowledge of state-of-the-art methods to support development, validation, and licensing of new methods in areas including thermal-hydraulics, coupled codes, and reload safety analysis. The role requires familiarity with PWR thermal‑hydraulic principles, design‑basis safety analysis, and interfaces with core design, fuel design, neutronics, and transient analysis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute to development and validation of next‑generation multi‑physics methods integrating subchannel TH, system TH, and neutronics.
Support method qualification efforts including benchmark selection, acceptance criteria definition, and comparison against experimental data or legacy reference analyses, with particular emphasis in areas of thermal-hydraulic expertise. Develop and review software QA documentation.
Prepare and verify subchannel analyses, including steady-state and transient margin evaluations and CHF predictions, in support of new method development.
Prepare and verify coupled TH evaluations, including LOCA, non‑LOCA transients, and design‑basis evaluations, in support of new method development using industry-standard and advanced simulation tools.
Work collaboratively within the Nuclear Fuels organization to ensure design and analysis interfaces are adequately managed, including with core design, fuel design, subchannel thermal-hydraulics, and transient analysis. Help develop workflows that improve consistency, automation, or integration across multi‑physics safety analyses.
Contribute to technical development of licensing technical or topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation, and participate in licensing interactions including interface with the government regulator in areas of technical responsibility.
Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and other design documents with particular emphasis on subchannel and system thermal-hydraulics. Work on tasks in multiple and diverse areas.
Provide technical leadership within Thermal Hydraulics; mentor junior engineers and lead analysis tasks in areas of expertise.
Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and innovation.
Perform other duties as assigned. Flexibly support changing organizational priorities, including urgent analysis needs, cross‑functional reviews, technical troubleshooting, or special studies.

Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
Education: A minimum of B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience is required. Experience in implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, and related safety analysis is required. Experience in neutronics or fuel performance preferred.
Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
