Executive Vice President of Product Management (EVP Product Management)
I. Position Overview
The Executive Vice President of Product Management is responsible for the enterprise's overall product management strategy, product portfolio planning, product lifecycle management, and product commercialization.
This role oversees the entire product management ecosystem—spanning market requirements, product strategy, planning, R&D collaboration, and launch through to lifecycle management. The EVP coordinates across product, technology, R&D, design, marketing, sales, and customer teams to ensure product strategy aligns with the overall corporate strategy, market demands, and business objectives.
II. Key Responsibilities
1. Product Management Strategy
Formulate the enterprise-wide product management strategy and long-term product development plan.
Establish product management frameworks, governance mechanisms, and management standards.
Ensure alignment between product strategy and corporate strategy, market needs, and business goals.
Adjust product strategy in a timely manner based on market and business changes.
2. Product Portfolio Management
Oversee the enterprise's overall product portfolio and product line planning.
Evaluate the market performance, growth potential, and commercial value of various products.
Optimize product resource allocation and investment priorities.
Drive the development of high-potential products and the optimization or phase-out of underperforming ones.
3. Product Planning and Roadmap
Develop enterprise-level product roadmaps and development plans.
Determine product priorities based on customer needs, market trends, and technical capabilities.
Manage product versions, features, and long-term strategic direction.
Ensure product roadmaps align with R&D and commercial plans.
4. Market and Customer Needs Analysis
Research industry trends, market shifts, and the competitive landscape.
Analyze customer needs, user behavior, and product feedback.
Establish systems for gathering market and customer insights.
Translate market needs into product opportunities and planning initiatives.
5. Product R&D Collaboration
Drive product development in collaboration with R&D, engineering, and technical teams.
Establish coordination mechanisms linking product requirements, technical development, and business objectives.
Oversee the progress of key product R&D projects.
Resolve major cross-departmental issues arising during product development.
6. Product Innovation and New Product Development
Drive initiatives for new products, features, and product innovations.
Evaluate opportunities to apply new technologies to products.
Establish mechanisms for product innovation and proof-of-concept (POC) development. Drive innovative products from concept and development to commercial launch.
7. Product Commercialization
Formulate go-to-market and commercialization strategies.
Coordinate product launch plans with sales, marketing, and business development teams.
Support product pricing, market positioning, and business model design.
Monitor market performance and commercial results following new product launches.
8. Product Lifecycle Management
Manage the full product lifecycle, from planning and development to launch and retirement.
Continuously evaluate product revenue, profitability, market share, and customer usage.
Formulate strategies for product upgrades, optimization, expansion, and retirement.
Maximize commercial value throughout the product lifecycle.
9. Product Performance Management
Establish enterprise-level product KPIs and performance evaluation systems.
Track product revenue, user growth, market share, and profitability.
Analyze gaps between product performance and strategic objectives.
Drive adjustments to product strategy and resource allocation based on data.
10. Cross-functional Product Governance
Establish collaboration mechanisms among product, R&D, technology, design, sales, and marketing teams.
Oversee major product decisions and product prioritization.
Drive the standardization of product management processes.
Resolve resource and decision-making conflicts in major product initiatives.
11. Product Organization and Talent Management
Establish a global or enterprise-level product management organization.
Manage VPs of Product, Product Directors, and senior product leaders.
Develop systems for product manager training, performance evaluation, and career development.
Cultivate product management teams with business, technical, and user-centric mindsets.
12. Executive Decision Support
Report product strategy and operational performance to the CEO, President, CPO, and Board of Directors.
Provide insights on product portfolios, market trends, and competitive analysis.
Support decision-making regarding product investments, R&D resource allocation, and strategic projects.
Participate in major corporate decisions concerning product and business strategy.
III. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering, Product Design, Economics, or a related field.
Experience in product management, product strategy, or product organization management within large enterprises.
Experience managing complex product portfolios and multiple product lines.
Familiarity with product strategy, market analysis, product planning, and lifecycle management. Possesses experience in coordinating product R&D, commercialization, and market promotion.
Demonstrates strong capabilities in data analysis, business analysis, and product decision-making.
Experience managing cross-functional, cross-regional, or global product organizations is preferred.
Familiarity with sectors such as technology, software, hardware, semiconductors, healthcare, or other complex product industries is preferred.
Possesses excellent strategic planning, leadership, and senior management communication skills.
An MBA, a master’s degree in a technical field, or a related advanced degree is preferred.
