About the Role
The Principal Product Manager, Product Management for Legal Business will be a pivotal leader, defining and driving our AI-first strategy for the legal application ecosystem. This forward-thinking role is instrumental in orchestrating Workday's product suite wherever applicable, custom innovations, and third-party technologies to construct a premier, intelligent legal operations platform. By embedding intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and generative AI into the core of our legal operations, you will unlock unprecedented business value and create truly streamlined experiences for legal, compliance, and contracting teams. The Product Manager will be part of Business Technology under Product & Technology, responsible for defining our product roadmap and designing digital and agentic legal experiences leveraging AI, agentic and core technologies.
What you will do:
AI-First Product Vision, Strategy and Roadmap: Architect and champion a long-term product roadmap for our Legal Business ecosystem, centered on AI and Machine Learning.
Intelligent Product Lifecycle Management: Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle for initiatives in legal operations, from ideation and business case development to defining requirements and measuring ROI.
Team Leadership & AI Culture: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of product managers. Foster an AI-centric approach, encouraging continuous learning, rapid experimentation, and a deep understanding of how to responsibly build and deploy intelligent systems.
Executive & Customer Partnership: Serve as the lead advisor to legal and business leadership on the art of the possible with AI in the legal function. Bring the executive presence and conviction to constructively challenge, negotiate with, and when necessary push back on senior executives (including General Counsel, CLO, and C-suite stakeholders) when product trade-offs, timelines, or scope are at odds with sound strategy. Translate sophisticated legal and compliance challenges into solvable problems and articulate a clear vision that secures consensus and drives cross-functional alignment.
Influence & Innovation: Partner closely with Workday's product teams to influence the future legal product roadmap. Proactively lead release cycles to not only adopt new features but to be a leading voice in their creation and application.
Ecosystem & Vendor Strategy: Evaluate and lead a portfolio of legal technology partners and vendors (e.g., contract lifecycle management, e-discovery, IP management), ensuring our ecosystem is composed of best-in-class solutions that align with our strategic goals.
BT Ecosystem Partnership: Build strong working relationships across all Business Technology towers to ensure the legal platform strategy is coherent with enterprise-wide technology standards, data models, and roadmaps — proactively surfacing dependencies and shared opportunities rather than operating in a legal silo
About You
Basic Qualifications:
12+ years of experience in product management, with a significant focus on shipping enterprise-level, technology-powered products in a B2B or SaaS environment.
Deep domain expertise in core legal operations processes (such as contract lifecycle management, matter management, compliance, e-discovery, and intellectual property) with best practices and a vision for how AI can fundamentally transform them.
Other Qualifications:
Define and manage the legal operations and compliance roadmap through strategic collaboration with business stakeholders and Product & Technology (P&T) teams.
Mastery in leading cross-team collaboration, effectively working with and influencing P&T, and partnering across all Business Technology towers (e.g., Finance BT, HR BT, Sales/Marketing BT, IT/Infrastructure, Data & Analytics) — not just legal-adjacent teams — to align on shared platform standards, avoid duplicative solutions, and drive complex, cross-functional product strategies and initiatives.
Demonstrated executive presence and the confidence to respectfully challenge senior executives and legal leadership in high-stakes settings, defending product decisions with data and sound reasoning rather than simply deferring to seniority
Consistent record of successfully integrating legal and contract management systems (preferably Workday) with other enterprise applications and data platforms.
Familiarity with AI technology stack along with other technology market players supporting legal business, CLM or Legal-related certification(s) are a plus.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.
