This position is responsible for managing the operations of a major Police Department unit, supervising employees, and managing a significant budget to keep operations running smoothly. What is the compensation package?
Pay: (G38) $97,000 - $144,000 per year (paid in bi-weekly installments)

What are the main duties? (Click here to view the full classification specification.)
Direct 24/7 public safety communications operations for police, fire, emergency medical, and 911 services, including unit planning, strategy, and performance.
Prepare and manage the division budget, allocate resources, and pursue and administer federal and state grants.
Oversee the evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of communications systems, technology, equipment, and vendor agreements.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, Utah Communications Authority standards, Public Safety Answering Point best practices, policies, procedures, and protocols.
Resolve conflicts related to major incidents and evaluate and report on unit performance.
Manage personnel and workflow, including scheduling, performance evaluations, recognition, discipline, hiring, termination, and employee concerns.
Oversee staff training and the unit’s quality assurance program.
Maintain required operational records and direct the lawful release of information under state law.
Coordinate with City departments, state and other agencies, designate a Terminal Agency Coordinator, and participate in required meetings.
Provide public education and outreach on 911 and public safety issues and perform other related duties as assigned.
What are the minimum requirements?
Provo City will honor an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
Bachelor's degree in Public Safety Management, Criminal Justice, Communications, Public Administration or other job-related field.
Five (5) years of experience in public safety communications or police or fire administration, 3 years of which must have been in a supervisory position.
A valid, lawful Driver License.
NENA Center Manager (CMCP) or APCO Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) certifications preferred.
What is the selection process?
Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on October 12, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.
If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
