The Sterling Operations team is seeking a motivated and experienced production planner to support a high‑mix, engineering‑to‑order environment and drive reliable execution of both new and established product builds. This role is critical to improving daily flow, strengthening order readiness, and ensuring the site meets internal and external customer commitments.
This is an onsite role in Sterling, VA.
What You Will Do
Evaluate, release, and coordinate production orders to ensure accurate, timely movement of materials through all stages of the build process.
Manage detailed scheduling and sequencing of orders, making adjustments as needed based on priorities, material readiness, capacity constraints, and engineering updates.
Identify delays or process gaps that impact order completion; develop and implement recovery plans to stabilize workflow and maintain schedule integrity.
Work closely with procurement and program management teams to ensure timely component availability, support conversion of planned orders, and improve consistency of material preparation.
Analyze and resolve MRP‑generated exceptions, addressing root causes and preventing recurring issues within the planning cycle.
Communicate any risks to order execution, schedule changes, or material issues that may impact deliveries or customer expectations.
Monitor and report key production metrics such as schedule adherence, WIP aging, and material or order‑related discrepancies.
Support the development of more structured, efficient, and system‑driven processes that reduce variability and improve order clarity from release through completion.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Experience using SAP or a comparable ERP system.
Experience with production planning within a dynamic or engineering-to-order manufacturing environment.
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience using Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes and/or software
Ability to set and work towards goals at a “big picture” level, and influence change at a detailed operational level
Problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Familiarity with electronics manufacturing or component-level manufacturing.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. This role may be eligible for relocation.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD - 181,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
