The Executive Director of Health Information Management Services provides strategic and operational leadership across City of Hope’s hospitals and outpatient clinical network in California, Georgia, Arizona and Illinois. This enterprise leader oversees HIMS operations and regulatory compliance, Clinical Documentation Integrity, coding and data quality, documentation support and release of information, document imaging, records management and related functions. Serving as custodian of the legal health record, the Executive Director connects clinical and revenue cycle priorities, advances performance and process improvement, and builds an engaged, accountable workforce.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Develop and execute enterprise HIMS strategies, goals and initiatives aligned with City of Hope’s organizational priorities.
Lead HIMS operations across multiple locations, setting performance indicators and ensuring service, quality and revenue cycle objectives are achieved.
Oversee coding, CDI, documentation, release of information, records management, forms management and regulatory compliance functions.
Serve as custodian of the legal health record and guide policies, procedures and medical staff requirements that support accurate, complete documentation.
Drive operational improvement by redesigning processes, applying leading practices and implementing innovative solutions with minimal disruption.
Partner with clinical, revenue cycle, compliance, legal, technology and operational leaders on denials prevention, EHR optimization and information governance.
Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, vendor relationships and business-unit performance.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal, state, accreditation and organizational requirements.
Attract, develop and retain high-performing leaders and teams through coaching, transparency, accountability and servant leadership.
Support acquisition and expansion initiatives by ensuring health information management requirements are effectively addressed.
Your qualifications should include:
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
10 or more years of experience in Health Information Management, including at least seven years in a leadership capacity.
Current RHIA or RHIT certification.
Membership in AHIMA and CHIA.
Strong knowledge of HIMS operations, revenue cycle management, legal health records, release of information, CDI, coding and information governance.
Knowledge of TJC standards, California Title 22, CMS, FDA, HIPAA, CMIA and NIH requirements.
Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, DRGs and APCs.
Experience leading multiple levels of management across varied locations.
Demonstrated written, verbal, analytical and stakeholder-management skills.
Master’s degree and experience within a large health system using multiple electronic health record systems are highly preferred.
