Director, Associate General Counsel – Global Labor & Employment (APAC & India)
About the Role
NIQ is looking for a commercially minded Labor & Employment lawyer to join its Global L&E Legal team as a true business partner. You will advise senior leaders, HR and business stakeholders on complex workplace matters spanning employee relations, investigations, workforce transformation, labor relations, litigation, compliance and employment risk management across multiple jurisdictions.
This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to influence key people and business decisions, partner directly with senior leadership, and help shape employment strategy in one of the world's leading consumer intelligence companies. We are looking for someone who helps the business move forward: you will weigh legal risk against business priorities and make proportionate, risk-based calls across diverse jurisdictions.
What You'll Do
Lead the resolution of complex employee relations, labor and union matters, including disputes, labor proceedings, litigation, negotiations, mediations, and settlements.
Lead and advise on complex and sensitive workplace investigations, including matters involving senior leaders and allegations of misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and conflicts of interest with significant legal, regulatory, or reputational impact.
Advise on disciplinary proceedings, performance management, workforce reductions, and terminations, balancing legal risk and business objectives.
Support strategic business initiatives, including reorganizations, restructurings, M&A transactions, outsourcing, hubbing, and workforce integrations.
Advise on labor and employment requirements across multiple jurisdictions, helping the business prioritize and manage risk proportionately, as well as on executive employment, employment agreements, employee data, whistleblower and ethics matters, immigration, and other cross-border issues.
Partner with HR and Ethics & Compliance to develop, interpret, and enforce global and local workplace conduct and employment policies, and deliver related training (e.g., Code of Conduct, anti-harassment, conflicts of interest, anti-retaliation, and Speak Up).
Serve as a trusted business partner to business and HR leaders, focused on finding a workable path to their objectives rather than simply identifying obstacles, and collaborating across Legal, HR, Privacy, Ethics & Compliance, Security, and other functions to deliver commercially pragmatic solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
We are seeking a seasoned employment lawyer and business partner who combines deep legal expertise with strong business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to influence outcomes in a complex global environment.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Admission to practice law in at least one common law jurisdiction, preferably Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, or the United Kingdom.
A minimum of 12 years' post-qualification experience in labor and employment law including substantive experience advising on employee relations, workplace investigations, disciplinary proceedings, labor and union matters, employment disputes, and litigation.
At least 5 years of in-house legal experience within a multinational organization, or a combination of leading law firm and in-house experience.
Demonstrated experience across multiple APAC jurisdictions, such as India, Singapore, China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Demonstrated experience leading complex, sensitive, and high-profile employment matters independently, including investigations involving senior leaders and matters with significant legal, regulatory, reputational, and business implications.
Strong knowledge of employment law principles and practical experience supporting workforce transformations, restructurings, business reorganizations, M&A transactions, outsourcing initiatives, and other strategic business changes.
Sound, independent judgment and a business-first, solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, balance legal risk against commercial priorities, and turn complex issues into practical solutions.
Strong organizational and project management skills; a hands-on self-starter who manages competing priorities with minimal oversight in a fast-paced environment.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance and executive-ready presentations for non-legal audiences, and a proven ability to build credibility with and influence senior executives and stakeholders at all levels.
A collaborative mindset and experience partnering with HR, Ethics & Compliance, Privacy, Security, and business leaders across functions, geographies, and cultures.
Resilience and composure under pressure, together with unquestioned integrity, discretion when handling confidential and sensitive matters, and the confidence to challenge the status quo when appropriate.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including the ability to build, manage, and analyze spreadsheets.
A practical, responsible approach to AI and legal technology, using these tools to reduce workload and work more efficiently while applying your own judgment to, and taking full ownership of, all work product.
