The Opportunity
As the Design Manager, you will coordinate and guide multidisciplinary design teams delivering complex civil infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Head of Design Management, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of design outcomes across the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with client requirements, project objectives, Australian standards, and regulatory obligations.
Working closely with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders, you will drive the development of safe, practical, and innovative design solutions while proactively managing design risks and ensuring quality outcomes.
You will play a key role in facilitating collaboration across disciplines, maintaining design integrity, and supporting the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects.
Key Accountabilities:
Lead and develop multidisciplinary internal and external design teams, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and direction to achieve project objectives and high-quality design outcomes.
Oversee the end-to-end design lifecycle, ensuring design solutions are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all legislative, technical, and quality requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders, aligning design delivery with project goals while effectively managing expectations and risks.
Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and best-practice design methodologies, ensuring the integrity of design documentation and providing subject matter expertise to support project and business success.
Required Skills and Competencies
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline), complemented by proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on major civil infrastructure projects.
Strong technical expertise across transport, water, energy, transmission, and other large-scale infrastructure sectors, with the ability to drive high-quality design outcomes.
Demonstrated capability in managing complex stakeholder relationships, including clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities, while influencing project success.
Exceptional leadership, communication, commercial, and project management skills, supported by advanced design review and reporting capabilities; CPEng status (or progress towards chartership) will be highly regarded.
