- Salary package: $102,136 (HEW 6.1) per annum plus 17% superannuation

The Role
The Faculty of Science and Engineering is currently seeking a suitably qualified Senior Scientific Officer, to provide technical and operational support across research and teaching laboratory facilities and activities within Applied BioSciences and the School of Natural Sciences.
As the successful applicant, you will be actively engaged in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of research and teaching laboratories through the provision of high-quality technical support. This includes coordination of the day-to-day technical operational requirements across shared research laboratories, assessing user needs, providing training on and scheduling usage of equipment and facilities, whilst ensuring the laboratories remain safe, functional, and compliant. You will also provide technical support to undergraduate teaching. You will have the opportunity to utilise your working knowledge of both general and specialist equipment as well as health and safety by developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and protocols.
You will be a skilled communicator, being able to communicate to a diverse range of users and stake holders. The successful incumbent will be able to work independently and have an aptitude for trouble shooting and problem-solving day to day operational and equipment issues.
About You
You will have completed a degree in Biology or in a closely related discipline. You will have a sound understanding of relevant compliance regulations including PC2 and OGTR. You have excellent problem-solving skills especially in relation to technical issues. You are able to work with minimal supervision and are hands-on. You have a passion for workplace health and safety with an ability to identify and manage hazards in the workplace. You are an excellent communicator with a proactive nature and are flexible and resilient in your approach. You are agile and manage time and resources effectively to prioritise and deal with issues as they arise.
About Us
The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs across a diverse range of disciplines and is home to several world-class research centres and facilities. It is comprised of two research departments and four schools, each with a different scale and/or discipline-specific approach to administration, technical and infrastructure support for research and teaching.
The Technical Operations team provide specialised technical support services to teaching and research activities of the Faculty. The team covers a broad range of capabilities and expertise across laboratory, specialist facilities and field-based activities that are essential for the smooth functioning of teaching and research within the Faculty.

Essential
A degree in Biology or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining laboratory facilities and associated equipment, including troubleshooting and resolving a broad range of technical issues.
Demonstrated experience working in PC2 facilities, with a strong understanding and practical application of work health and safety legislation, regulations, and safe work practices within biological research laboratory environments.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, organise workload effectively, and achieve work objectives within required timeframes.
Desirables
Demonstrated experience working with controlled environments.
