A Level 1/2 Data Center Engineer is primarily responsible for ensuring the data centre's smooth and efficient operation. This includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, assisting with new equipment installations, and collaborating with other teams. They also play a role in managing data centre access, inventory, and basic network connectivity.
Responsibilities:
Monitor data centre systems, including servers, storage devices, and network equipment, using monitoring tools.
Respond to alerts and take appropriate action to resolve issues or escalate to higher-level support as needed.
Perform regular health checks on data centre equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Provide L1/L2 support for hardware and software issues, including server reboots, network connectivity problems, and hardware failures.
Knowledge of data centre-related parameters (cooling, power) and ISO standards.
Coordinate with L2/L3/L4 engineers and vendors for more complex issues and repairs.
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as server rack installations, hardware upgrades, and cabling.
Manage and document data centre assets, including hardware inventory and configuration details.
Conduct regular backups and data recovery tests as per established procedures.
Respond promptly to data centre incidents, including power outages, hardware failures, and security breaches.
Follow and enforce data centre security policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate records of data centre operations, including maintenance logs, incident reports, and change management documentation.
Prepare/participate in regular reporting activities on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities for management review.
Work closely with other IT teams, including network, systems, and storage engineers, to resolve issues and improve operations.
Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders to ensure smooth data centre operations.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.
Requirements:
Knowledge of infra management tools like Zabbix, Trellis, Sunbird, DCIM, BMS, Access Control System, CCTV, KMS for administration and capacity management.
Basic Knowledge of Passive Infra (Electrical, HVAC, PAC, UPS, etc. ) and hands-on working knowledge of i-PDUs, STS, ATS, etc.
Audit and Compliance - Internal and External audits (ISO 27001 22301 DC Audits, CSITE, COBIT, BIA, etc. )
Basic Knowledge of Network troubleshooting (Telnet, PuTTY, Port visibility, FC troubleshooting).
Knowledge of structured cabling and troubleshooting.
Operational knowledge of Tools like OTDR, LSPM, Thermography, and anemometer.
Intermediate experience with MS Excel and MS Word.
Well-versed with ITSM Framework for Incident Management, Change Management, and asset management.
Hands-on experience with any ITSM Tool like HPSM, ServiceNow, BMC, SolarWinds, etc.
