Team Overview
Dave is looking for a talented engineer to play an instrumental role in building products that help millions of people improve their relationship with money. We're looking for a passionate software engineer interested in backend development. Risk is a critical part of Dave's platform-centric teams, providing real-time analytics to assess users' risk and behavior. Risk is also responsible for validating the legitimacy of our users' identities and actions. The team builds and operates event-driven, asynchronous decisioning systems that need to be fast, resilient, and auditable at scale.
What You'll Do:
- We're looking for talented engineers to play an instrumental role in building products that help millions of people
- Design and build backend services in TypeScript for real-time and asynchronous risk decisioning
- Build and maintain event-driven workflows using queues, pub/sub, and cloud task infrastructure
- Design and implement state machines to model multi-step decisioning and verification flows
- Work closely with product, operations, and infrastructure to build and scale backend services
- Regularly participate in code reviews and other team functions
- Own end-to-end delivery of small to medium-sized projects from design through production
- Provide technical leadership and help guide the team's overall technical direction
- Offer mentorship and pair with other engineers regularly
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in software development
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture (message queues, pub/sub, or similar)
- Experience with cloud task/job scheduling systems (e.g., Cloud Tasks, SQS, Celery, or equivalent)
- Experience designing or implementing state machines for multi-step workflows
- Strong CS fundamentals and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Experience programming in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js http://node.js) or similar experience in Java, Python, C/C++, or Go
- Experience with MySQL, and Google Cloud Platform
- Effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- The ability to discuss and explain system architecture and design
- Comfortable using AI tools as part of your engineering workflow, with sound judgment about when to rely on them and when not to
