Backend Engineer

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to build the services and systems that power visa processing for travelers around the world, from the APIs behind our apps to the pipelines that file every application. You'll design and own Python services that connect government portals, payment providers, document pipelines, and our AI systems, and keep them fast, reliable, and correct as we scale across countries and volume. This role is for someone with a strong engineering foundation who loves clean systems design and who gets as much satisfaction from a service that quietly works at peak load as from shipping a new feature.
Responsibilities:
Build the core platform by designing and shipping Python services and APIs that power applications, payments, document handling, and order tracking across 127 countries.
Integrate with the real world by building robust integrations with government portals, embassies, payment gateways, and partners, handling retries, rate limits, flaky endpoints, and ever-changing rules gracefully.
Scale for volume by designing data models, queues, and async workflows that hold up through peak travel seasons and sudden spikes in demand.
Put AI into production by working closely with our AI team to turn LLM-powered agents and document intelligence pipelines into reliable, observable backend services.
Own systems end to end by taking work from design to production, including deployment, monitoring, alerting, and incident follow-ups, with a high bar for testing and security since we handle passports and financial documents.
Requirements:
Have 3-6 years of backend engineering experience, building and running production systems at a meaningful scale.
Are exceptionally strong in Python and have shipped production services with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
Have solid fundamentals in databases and distributed systems, including PostgreSQL, Redis, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or Celery), caching, and async processing.
Are comfortable with cloud infrastructure and modern tooling such as AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability stacks.
Have exposure to browser automation (Playwright, Selenium), integrating LLM APIs, or building in fintech, travel, or other high-compliance domains (a strong plus).
