Assistant Electrical Engineer

The Division of Traffic Operations’ Signals and Street Lighting Engineering Design unit seeks to hire a motivated candidate to perform responsible work in electrical engineering. The successful candidate will engage in research, investigations, studies, or examinations related to the engineering functions or activities of the department or agency. Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD, and evaluate contract documents and specifications, working drawings, and other technical specifications and estimates of quantities. Conduct field visits and complete lighting survey projects and any improvement requests to ensure city standards, IESNA, and national electrical codes are met. The successful candidate will coordinate with design consultants and review submitted plans for the development/modification of new and/or existing signalized intersections and street lighting work. Coordinate electrical service, relocation, and other requests for utilities. Advise and make recommendations to other city and state agencies regarding traffic signal and street lighting projects. Review and approve shop drawings and catalog cuts for construction. Maintain records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys, and inspection data.
Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment in this position.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience with lighting design software such as Visual Professional, AGi32, and other photometric analysis tools.
- Familiarity with Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) standards and recommendations, as well as NEC, NESC, AASHTO, and FHWA codes and guidelines.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents, technical specifications, and engineering drawings

ASSISTANT ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - 20310
1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
A master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.
