Clinical Abstraction Specialist

Position OverviewAt United Health Services, we believe every connection matters, and the work of our Clinical Abstract Specialists helps turn clinical information into meaningful insights that improve patient care. In this role, you will review medical records to accurately abstract data elements using detailed specifications from CMS, The Joint Commission, accreditation agencies, and insurance companies. Your expertise will support quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance.
Working collaboratively with providers, clinical teams, and leadership, you will help ensure the integrity of data used to measure outcomes and drive excellence across the health system. You will also serve as a valued resource by providing education to medical staff and employees regarding Core Measures and quality reporting requirements. Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
Associate in applied science in Health Information Technology OR
License Practical Nurse OR
Relevant associate degree in health care
Preferred:
Associate in applied science in Health Information Technology with 3 years' experience.
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) within 6 months of hire; OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); OR certified in one of the following areas: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) or equivalent.
