The Role:
Working in our Crewe depot and reporting into the Team Leader, you will be responsible for carrying out electrical maintenance, fault finding, repair and testing activities on rail vehicles in accordance with approved procedures and standards. You will play a key role in ensuring fleet reliability, safety and availability through the effective maintenance of electrical systems and components across the rolling stock fleet.
Responsibilities:
• Carry out work as allocated by the Team Leader / Heavy Maintenance Manager within set timescales and to the recognised standards, with a strong focus on electrical maintenance and fault rectification.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on rolling stock systems and equipment using technical drawings, schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Carry out electrical inspections, testing and commissioning activities to ensure vehicles are returned to service safely and reliably.
• Operate (drive) rail vehicles as required, within depot operating limits, and in accordance with all relevant operating procedures.
• Ensure that safety procedures and documents are adhered to in accordance with VMI & local instruction.
• Ensure that work sheets are signed off promptly and correctly on completion of work.
• Ensure that the appropriate Quality and Environmental procedures and work instructions are adhered to.
• Attend technical, quality, safety and general briefings ensuring that the necessary action is taken on items raised.
• Undertake Safety Critical Work Regulations assessments under the guidance of the Team Leader, taking remedial action where necessary.
• Carry out any duties within level of competence, as requested by the Team Leader / Heavy Maintenance Manager.
• Maintain good housekeeping and standard of cleanliness throughout depot at all times.
• Use of all PPE in accordance with Standards and Local Instructions.
• Assist as directed by Team Leader / Heavy Maintenance Manager to ensure Rolling Stock availability / reliability targets are met.
• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
What You Bring:
• Qualifications – Must have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience – Proven experience in electrical maintenance, fault finding, repair and testing activities within rail, manufacturing, heavy engineering or similar environments.
• Knowledge – Good understanding of electrical systems, depot operations and the ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings.
• Engineering – Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, fault diagnosis techniques and safe isolation procedures. Experience of rolling stock maintenance would be advantageous.
• Problem Solving – Ability to identify faults, determine root causes and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime.
