Overview
The Virtual Card Services (VCS) team within Mastercard Commercial Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to help drive the next generation of commercial payment solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative virtual card products that power secure and seamless B2B payment experiences for customers worldwide.
The ideal candidate is passionate about building scalable, cloud-native applications, solving complex engineering challenges, driving technical excellence, and delivering high-quality software solutions in a fast-paced agile environment.
Role
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance highly scalable applications supporting Mastercard's Virtual Card Services platform.
• Build and maintain cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry) technologies.
• Participate in end-to-end software development activities, from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Contribute to data migration initiatives, ensuring data integrity, performance, and operational excellence during platform modernization efforts.
• Support and drive release management activities, including deployment planning, validation, production readiness, and post-release monitoring.
• Develop comprehensive automated and manual test cases to ensure software quality, reliability, and security.
• Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver business value and meet customer needs.
• Manage project priorities, timelines, and deliverables while balancing technical debt, platform stability, and new feature development.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, story refinement, estimation, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions to improve platform resiliency and operational efficiency.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices, code quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
• Strong experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
• Proven experience building and supporting RESTful and SOAP-based web services, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience working with JSON and XML message formats, service integration patterns, and API design best practices.
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing web service applications such as PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry) or similar cloud platforms.
• Experience with data migration projects, including data transformation, validation, reconciliation, and implementation planning.
• Knowledge of software release processes and experience supporting release management activities across development and production environments.
• Experience designing and executing automated and manual test cases, with a strong focus on software quality and test automation.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI/CD, secure coding, and observability.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and contributing to technical discussions, architecture reviews, and sprint ceremonies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with geographically distributed teams in a matrix organization.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architecture, containerization, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working within payment processing, commercial payments, virtual card, or financial services domains.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, and distributed system design.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
