Director, Financial Reporting - Canada Remote

OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Vice President, Business Intelligence and Financial Reporting, the Director, Corporate Finance provides financial leadership and oversight for the Common Collection System (CCS), including governance, reporting, planning, controls, compliance, and stewardship. The Director translates complex financial information into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across the organization. Success in this role requires strong financial expertise, leadership capability, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
This position requires residency in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
Lead the Common Collection System’s financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
Develop and maintain financial models to analyze revenue, cost structures, and reserves across the common collection system.
Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics for internal reporting.
Manage the preparation of assigned journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
Review accounting procedures and ensure compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes that may impact financial reporting and compliance.
Provide in-depth financial analysis and variance reporting to senior management, highlighting key trends, financial performance, and deviations from budget.
Oversee collection, allocation, reconciliation and settlement processes.
BUDGETING AND FORECASTING
Lead the development of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and financial projections.
Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.
STRATEGIC FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to evaluate the financial impact of different business strategies.
Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to support business decisions, strategic initiatives, and financial planning.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Implement and oversee the use of financial reporting systems, ensuring proper integration with ERP and accounting software (e.g., SAP, Datarails).
Lead efforts to automate reporting processes and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes and reporting tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION AND LEADERSHIP
Partner with senior leadership, operational teams, and department heads to ensure financial decisions are aligned with Circular Materials business strategies.
Ensure timely and accurate communication of financial data, insights, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
Act as the primary liaison between the finance team and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulatory bodies, to support the timely and efficient completion of audits, reviews, and regulatory requirements.
Foster a collaborative environment within the financial reporting team to encourage knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
Manage assigned team members in completing work appropriate to team member’s job description and supporting the execution of responsibilities outlined within this job description.
Additional ad-hoc tasks may be assigned as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
CPA or other relevant certification is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education, and experiences may be considered.
Experience
10+ years of progressive experience including 3 years in senior leadership roles.
Strong experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and/or variance analysis.
Advanced proficiency in financial software (e.g., SAP, Datarails) and Microsoft Excel with strong preference for experience in Power BI dashboard development and AWS.
Knowledge/Competencies/Skills
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and the ability to communicate and apply AI technologies effectively within a business context.
Advanced skills in financial modeling and /or variance analysis with experience in amalgamating large data sets to provide actionable insights.
Experience with financial consolidation, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and/or financial analysis.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial insights to non-financial, cross-functional stakeholders and/or senior management to action.
Proven track record of establishing new processes, automating existing manual workflows, and/or developing dashboards.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment which may have changing business priorities.
High level of integrity, personal responsibility, and accountability.
WORKING CONDITIONS
All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a home office environment.
Extra or flexible hours may be required on occasion.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
Expected Compensation:
An annual base salary in the range of $130,000 to $150,000
The salary range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential base salary range for this role. The actual salary offered will be determined within the range, and will depend on factors, such as the candidate’s unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
