The Quality Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance to lead, support and continuously improve the quality planning activities including: Customer and supplier activities, assisting in Corrective Action activities, quality reporting, acting as a communication link between KEI and the customer, and pursuing continuous improvement.
Quick Summary
The person in this role will be working in a cross functional team led by the Lead Engineer and Program Manager to meet and exceed customer expectations for new and sustaining product. The Customer Engineer may include direct communications with the customer(s) and making data driven decisions to ensure quality product is a priority above all.
To be successful the candidate must be self-motivated, persistent, quality driven, a quick learner, possess good communication skills, have a positive attitude, and be able work independently but be a team player. The Quality Manager and the Lead Customer Engineer will work with the QE on developing these key characteristics. The QE will also help to mentor and lead the Engineering Technician (ET) and Engineering Admin (EA).
Basic Candidate Background Requirements
Utilization of Statistical Analysis & Tools
Chi Square, ANOVA, DOE, SPC
ESD knowledge, GD&T knowledge, MSA knowledge preferable
Be knowledgeable of applicable customer Quality Standards and IPC Standards knowledge

Knowledgeable of Lean Six Sigma Strategy
PPAP Requirements
Experience in Electronics Manufacturing.
Strong mechanical and electronics knowledge and experience
Quality Corrective Action background
Disciplined problem solving approach
Project Leadership skills
Understanding of Lean/Six Sigma concepts and/or certification
Proven success in running Kaizen events.
Proven track record of overcoming obstacles to launch new products.
Robotics, Pneumatics, Kinematics, Control Systems Design understanding
Problem solving techniques and processes
Knowledge of software and applications development processes
5+ years Quality Engineering experience preferred
Electronics Manufacturing experience preferred
Key Performance Objectives
Short Term (0 to 3 months)
• Learn KEJ Quality Management System requirements
• Learn Customer Requirements and Quality flow downs
• Take co-ownership of the customer meetings, data for the meetings, action items
• Learn Quality and Operations documentation and processes
• Learn and provide input to the MRB and NPI process
• Learn and adopt Kimball Electronics philosophies and culture
Midterm (3 to 12 months)
• Co-own Corrective Action to closure internally and externally
• Reduce overall PPM and improve internal yields by implementing data driven decisions and
actions/poke yokes to improve customer metrics and reduce COPQ.
• Manage customer RMA’s and communications of complaints
• Participate in the development and maintenance of PFMEA and Control Plans and First
Article Inspections
• Develop and submit PPAP / product approval documents for new/changed products to
meet customer requirements.
• Participate in supplier audits / supplier development, as needed
• Review customer documentation and determine process/flow and equipment/tooling
requirements
• Works with Quality Department to improve efficiency/effectiveness of inspection
methods/processes through improved methods, improved manufacturing processes,
and/or identification of resource needs (personnel, technology, etc.)
• Trains others on quality related requirements, procedures, methods, etc.
