Sr. Engineering Manager

The Director of Finance Technology and Cloud Engineering will lead a portfolio of applications supporting financial reporting, expected credit loss, general ledger processing, reconciliation, disbursements, tax reporting, planning, profitability, treasury, and financial risk management.

Actual results compared with plan and forecast
Month-over-month movements and explanations
Credit loss provision movements and scenario comparisons

Product, dealer, and customer-segment profitability
Interest income sensitivity and financial stress scenarios
Forecast accuracy and reserve adequacy assessments
The application portfolio operates in a regulated financial environment and must meet applicable financial reporting, audit, security, data lineage, and internal control requirements. These include Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, Internal Control over Financial Reporting, Current Expected Credit Loss standards, and International Financial Reporting Standard 9, where applicable.
The successful candidate will provide technology and product leadership across application development, cloud modernization, artificial intelligence adoption, major regulatory programs, and production operations. This position requires strong engineering judgment, knowledge of financial systems, experience leading managers and large technical teams, and the ability to communicate effectively with executive stakeholders.
Technology and product leadership
Own the technology strategy, product roadmap, architecture governance, and engineering delivery for a portfolio of business-critical finance applications.
Lead the development of new product capabilities and enhancements using modern full-stack engineering practices, including Java, Spring Boot, application programming interfaces, microservices, Angular, and React.
Review and approve major architecture and technical design decisions. Establish appropriate delegated approval authority for lower-risk changes.
Maintain strong engineering governance through design reviews, code reviews, automated testing, performance engineering, and production-readiness assessments.
Partner with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Risk, and Audit stakeholders to ensure that financial calculations, reports, controls, and data lineage meet business and regulatory requirements.
Establish controls for calculation accuracy, allocation and attribution logic, rounding and precision, recalculation, restatement, and traceability to authoritative source data.
Major program delivery
Lead technology delivery for major transformation and regulatory programs, including banking capabilities, funding initiatives, and core system modernization.
Develop integrated delivery plans that address regulatory milestones, dependencies, data conversion, testing, operational readiness, and business adoption.
Resolve competing priorities across financial close activities, regulatory programs, cloud modernization, security remediation, and product enhancements.
Communicate delivery commitments, risks, dependencies, and decisions clearly to senior business and technology stakeholders.
Cloud and platform modernization
Define and execute the modernization roadmap for applications and databases moving to Google Cloud.
Oversee the use of Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run, BigQuery, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Pub/Sub, Terraform, identity and access management, and workload identity capabilities.
Lead database modernization initiatives, including the migration of Microsoft SQL Server workloads to PostgreSQL, while preserving financial results, data integrity, performance, and auditability.
Plan production cutovers around financial close calendars. Ensure that each critical release has tested deployment, rollback, reconciliation, and business-continuity procedures.
Maintain supported versions of application runtimes, databases, infrastructure components, and security controls.
Generative AI and intelligent automation
Define and deliver responsible generative AI and agent-based solutions that improve software engineering, testing, documentation, operational support, and finance processes.
Oversee solutions involving large language models, tool-enabled agents, retrieval-augmented generation, and governed financial data.
Establish controls for AI testing, evaluation, human approval, access management, data protection, explainability, monitoring, and audit trails.
Identify use cases that deliver measurable efficiency or quality improvements without compromising financial controls, security, privacy, or regulatory obligations.
Security, resilience, and production operations
Be accountable for the security, resilience, availability, and support model of the finance application portfolio.
Establish and monitor service-level objectives, recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, vulnerability remediation targets, and operational risk indicators.
Ensure that disaster recovery and business-continuity plans are documented, tested, and improved based on results.
Oversee application support for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close activities through a sustainable, appropriately staffed operating model.
Lead the response to significant incidents, including executive communication, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and prevention of recurrence.
Represent Technology in internal audits, external audits, regulatory reviews, and control examinations. Ensure that findings and remediation actions are completed within agreed timelines.
People, stakeholder, and financial leadership
Serve as the primary technology partner for senior Finance leaders and other executive stakeholders.
Lead a large organization comprising engineers, technical leads, managers, and external delivery partners.
Hire, coach, assess, and develop team members. Build an inclusive culture focused on engineering quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Maintain succession and knowledge-continuity plans for all critical applications and leadership roles.
Manage the portfolio budget, workforce plan, supplier performance, capacity allocation, and investment priorities.
Establish performance measures covering delivery predictability, product quality, control effectiveness, operational resilience, security, employee development, and business outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
At least 15 years of experience in enterprise technology, software product development, or application engineering.
At least 7 years of experience leading engineering teams, including experience managing engineering managers, technical leaders, or multidisciplinary delivery teams.
Strong technical background in enterprise application development using Java, Spring Boot, application programming interfaces, microservices, and modern web technologies.
Demonstrated ability to review and guide architecture, technical designs, code quality, performance, and production-readiness decisions.
Experience leading complex application or database migrations to a public cloud environment without compromising data integrity, reporting consistency, financial calculations, or operational continuity.
Experience with Google Cloud or a comparable public cloud platform. Relevant experience should include container platforms, serverless computing, data platforms, managed relational databases, infrastructure as code, identity and access management, and production cutover planning.
Experience delivering generative AI, machine learning, intelligent automation, or agent-based solutions into production with appropriate testing, governance, human oversight, monitoring, and audit controls.
Experience leading finance, accounting, treasury, risk, tax, or regulatory reporting applications in a controlled or regulated environment.
Understanding of financial data controls, calculation accuracy, reconciliation, data lineage, audit evidence, and production support during financial close periods.
Experience working directly with senior business and technology executives to establish priorities, make trade-offs, manage risks, and document decisions.
Experience managing budgets, strategic suppliers, workforce plans, and large delivery portfolios.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technology and operational risks to nontechnical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in banking, lending, automotive finance, captive finance, or another regulated financial services organization.
Experience with Current Expected Credit Loss requirements, International Financial Reporting Standard 9, Sarbanes-Oxley controls, or Internal Control over Financial Reporting.
Experience with Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run, BigQuery, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Pub/Sub, Terraform, workload identity, zero-trust security principles, and cloud identity and access management.
