Interns will gain knowledge and experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. Interns must work in accordance with DTNA’s core values of passion, respect, integrity and discipline. Internship positions can be located at various DTNA locations across the US. We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.
Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.
In the Detroit Powertrain Test Center, we are driving the powertrain validation for our global Daimler Truck brand including conventional diesel and alternative powertrain components. In this position, you will be working across several teams assisting with validating products, designing, setting up and executing validation testing as well as resolving problems encountered during prototype assembly and testing.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
Support various validation related topics that drive the development of conventional and alternative powertrains.
Develop and implement continuous improvement engineering initiatives.
Implement engineering test methodologies, test fixtures and procedures.
Analyze test results and troubleshoot issues as it pertains to the software/calibration, harnesses, sensors or equipment.
Develop test scripts to test propulsion software features & functions.
Researches and evaluates investments in technology, equipment, systems, or other assets that will enhance the test center’s performance.
Develop, implement, and maintain standard work Instructions & processes to optimize efficiencies within the workgroup.
Collaborate and coordinate with product teams and lab support teams to evaluate problems and support business efficiency.
Onsite work required to support validation efforts and business efficiency.
Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs
Knowledge You Should Bring
Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June)
Areas of study: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or related fields
Technical product knowledge in axles, diesel engines, and transmissions.
Knowledge of vehicle electrical and electronic systems, test instrumentation, data acquisition/analysis software and testing methodology.
Proficient creating and presenting technical reports.• Analyzing test results and identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems.
Ability to analyze electrical and electronic circuits.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical prints.
Familiar with Vector tools (CANalyzer) and programming languages (Python, SQL, Java or C++)
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools.
Strong mechanical aptitude to be able to work across various engineering disciplines.
