What You Will Do:
HPE Networking is seeking a Solution Test & Automation Engineer to support quality engineering for networking and distributed software solutions. This Individual Contributor role applies developed technical expertise to validate products, resolve complex testing challenges, and improve customer outcomes. The role combines software testing, automation, system-level debugging, and collaboration with engineering teams to deliver reliable and high-quality solutions.
You will partner with engineering, product management, services, support teams, and customers to validate networking solutions, improve quality engineering practices, and enhance product quality. In addition to technical execution, you may lead project activities and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Success in this role requires application of developed subject matter expertise, effective problem solving, delivery of quality improvements, collaboration with project teams, and contributions that advance customer outcomes and business objectives.
Solution Validation & Customer Engagement
Understand customer deployments, business requirements, architectures, and large-scale operational environments to develop comprehensive validation strategies.
Support and execute validation efforts for customer solutions and networking deployments.
Collaborate with customers, field engineers, solution architects, sales engineers, and services teams to validate real-world networking solutions and operational readiness.
Participate in technical design discussions and reviews to improve reliability, scalability, and serviceability.
Translate customer requirements into repeatable validation approaches.
Present technical findings, risk assessments, and quality recommendations to stakeholders.
Participate in cross-functional initiatives that improve customer outcomes and product quality.
Automation & Quality Engineering
Develop and enhance automation solutions supporting testing and validation activities.
Develop and maintain automation frameworks supporting functional, integration, system, and performance validation.
Contribute to engineering best practices for validation through CI/CD pipelines.
Evaluate and apply automation tools and engineering practices to improve efficiency.
Recommend quality engineering methodologies that improve engineering productivity.
Identify opportunities to simplify validation workflows through automation.
System-Level Testing & Debugging
Validate distributed and multi-component software and networking platforms.
Execute and automate regression, longevity, fault-injection, recovery, scalability, interoperability, and performance testing.
Utilize logs, metrics, traces, telemetry, observability platforms, and diagnostic frameworks to troubleshoot complex failures.
Perform root-cause investigations and collaborate with teams to resolve issues.
Differentiate product defects from infrastructure, automation, and environmental issues.
Recommend improvements to product testability and diagnosability.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical expertise for projects and releases.
Serve as a subject matter resource for solution validation and quality engineering.
Collaborate with engineering teams to align around quality objectives.
Promote quality-focused engineering practices throughout development.
Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to engineers as needed.
Contribute ideas and technical recommendations that improve product quality and engineering effectiveness.
Support technical improvements that create business value and customer impact.
What You Need to Bring:
Required Qualifications
Software Engineering & Automation
Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or C++, with proficiency in at least one language.
Experience developing automation frameworks and test solutions.
Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD environments.
Experience delivering automation and test efficiency improvements.
Systems & Networking
Strong understanding of Linux/UNIX operating systems, networking, processes, memory management, and system internals.
Experience validating distributed and multi-component systems.
Hands-on experience configuring and validating networking environments.
Experience supporting enterprise or cloud networking deployments.
Strong knowledge of performance testing and traffic-generation platforms such as Ixia and Spirent.
Testing & Quality Engineering
Strong experience with system-level and end-to-end validation.
Multi-feature, longevity, resiliency, interoperability, scale, and performance testing.
Fault injection and recovery validation.
Root-cause analysis and complex defect investigation.
Advanced troubleshooting across multiple software and infrastructure layers.
Leadership & Influence
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver project results.
Ability to provide technical recommendations and collaborate on engineering decisions.
Experience working with cross-functional teams and assisting junior engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
Should have minimum of 5+ yrs of industry experience
Advanced networking expertise in Layer 2, Layer 3, TCP/IP, Routing, MPLS, EVPN, and data center technologies.
Experience with network operating systems, cloud infrastructure, observability platforms, and distributed architectures.
Working knowledge of JUNOS.
Industry certifications such as JNCIE, CCIE, or equivalent.
Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools for automation development, test generation, diagnostics, failure analysis, and productivity improvements.
Track record of innovation resulting in patents, publications, standards contributions, or architectural leadership.
