Job Description:
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Health Licensure Bureau, which enforces the Uniform Credentialing Act through the administrative prosecution of licensed health care professionals. Attorneys run their own cases on a high-volume, varied docket, with the support of a strong, collegial team and a healthy work-life balance.

Examples of Work Performed
Prosecute complaints against licensed health care professionals for violations of the Uniform Credentialing Act.
Conduct administrative enforcement proceedings from initiation through resolution, including discovery, depositions, motions practice, contested case hearings, and any appeals.
Review and evaluate complaints, advise professional health occupational boards, work with expert witnesses, take testimony, and negotiate appropriate resolutions.
Draft petitions, motions, briefs, consent orders, settlement agreements, and other legal documents in health licensure matters.
Advise the Department of Health and Human Services regarding investigations of alleged violations of the Uniform Credentialing Act.
Represent the Department of Health and Human Services in administrative actions involving the denial, refusal to renew, or refusal to reinstate individual licenses, certificates, or registrations, including any court appeals in such matters.
Advise Bureau leadership, the Attorney General, and the appropriate board on matters involving health licensure enforcement, emerging regulatory issues, and proposed legislation or rules.
Perform legal research and prepare written analyses on complex professional licensing and regulatory issues.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Nebraska, or a clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion.
Excellent legal research and writing skills and strong professional judgment.
Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, and commitment to public service.
Preferred Qualifications
Legal experience in a private law firm, government agency, or enforcement body, which may include service as a judicial clerk.
Litigation or administrative practice experience, including motions practice, depositions, hearings, and appearances before administrative tribunals or state or federal courts.
