Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to build and automate modern enterprise infrastructure platforms.
This is an engineering-first role focused on automation, platform build, and scalable system delivery. You will work within an established architecture to deliver infrastructure through code, not operate it through tickets. Just as important, you will understand the platforms you are automating: the hypervisor, the operating system, and the storage beneath them, well enough to engineer them deliberately and to debug them when the runbook runs out.
What You'll Do
· Build and deploy infrastructure platforms across VMware and/or Nutanix, and Windows and Linux environments
· Develop and implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions
· Automate manual processes through scripting and pipelines
· Contribute to infrastructure lifecycle activities: deployment, upgrades, scaling, capacity, and optimization
· Support and build Kubernetes and container environments
· Troubleshoot production issues below the level of the tooling, across the hypervisor, operating system, storage, and network, and drive them to root cause
· Create and maintain engineering documentation: runbooks, LLDs, and handoff materials
Requirements
· 3-5 years of hands-on infrastructure or systems engineering
· Fluent in both written and spoken English language
· Experience building and deploying production infrastructure environments
· Demonstrable depth in at least one core infrastructure domain, whether virtualization, operating systems, or storage, beyond the tools used to automate it
Technical Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with:
· VMware or Nutanix. You have built, upgraded, and sized clusters, not only consumed virtual machines from them.
· Windows or Linux as an engineered platform. You have hardened, tuned, patched, and troubleshot it, not only logged into it.
· Terraform and/or Ansible. You have personally built infrastructure using these tools.
· PowerShell, Python, or Bash
Working experience with:
· Kubernetes or another container platform. You have deployed workloads, configured namespaces and RBAC, and troubleshot a cluster you did not personally stand up.
Familiarity with:
· Storage, backup, or disaster recovery, including provisioning, data protection, and recovery validation.
Must-Have Capabilities
You must be able to clearly demonstrate:
· You have personally built and deployed infrastructure, not just supported it
· You have automated repetitive work using code or pipelines
· You have worked in code-driven environments (Git, CI/CD)
· You can clearly explain what you built vs. what your team owned
· You can explain what runs beneath the tooling. Expect to be asked how a container is actually isolated, why a virtual machine is slow when the host is not busy, or where a write goes between the application and the disk. Fluency with Terraform, Helm, or a CI/CD pipeline does not answer these questions on its own.
What This Role Is NOT
· Not a ticket-driven role. You will not be measured on queue volume.
· Not a senior-level architecture or platform ownership role
We do not screen out operations-titled experience. Deep infrastructure knowledge is most often earned running production systems, and that background is welcome here. What matters is what you understand and what you have personally built.
Nice to Have
· A hands-on, live-lab certification: CKA or CKAD, RHCSA or RHCE, or VCP or VCAP. Multiple-choice fundamentals certifications such as AZ-900, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Terraform Associate do not substitute.
· Experience building or supporting Kubernetes environments at production scale
· Experience creating reusable automation or IaC components
· Performance tuning, capacity work, or a root-cause investigation you can walk through end to end
How You'll Be Successful / Bottom Line
You think like an engineer, not an operator, solving infrastructure challenges through code, automating manual work, and building scalable, repeatable systems. You take ownership of what you deliver and can clearly demonstrate what you've built and automated in production. You also understand how the platforms underneath your automation actually work, because provisioning a system you cannot explain is not engineering. This role is for engineers who build infrastructure through code, automate everything possible, and can account for every layer of what they deliver.
