Oakland County Health Division is seeking a compassionate and community-focused Auxiliary Health Clerk to support public health outreach throughout Oakland County. The position is part time and will require some flexibility in your schedule. This is a highly interactive, community-based role where you'll work directly with residents, schools, churches, community centers, LGBTQ+ organizations, and other community partners to increase access to important health services and education. What You'll Do:
• Deliver public health outreach and support services at community locations throughout Oakland County, including churches, schools, community centers, and partner organizations
• Assist professional staff with health screenings, routine clinical support activities, and minor laboratory testing at outreach events and community clinics
• Take and document physical measurements and accurately record findings following established procedures
• Help residents access public health services by scheduling and rescheduling appointments and connecting them with available resources
• Assist in creating and distributing health education materials and public health information
• Support health education events, conferences, and community programs by providing logistical and administrative assistance
• Assist with program planning, data collection, record keeping, and preparation of reports
• Collaborate with public health professionals and community partners to deliver exceptional customer service and improve community health outcomes
• Utilize County technology and software to maintain records and support program operations

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possess an Associate’s Degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education or closely related areas;
OR
Have Merit System status in any classification and be currently employed in the Health & Human Services Department; AND
Have successfully completed at least the equivalent of one (1) year of college at an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education, or closely related areas; AND
Have two (2) years of full‑time work experience in the Oakland County Health & Human Services Department conducting or assisting in various para‑professional health assignments and activities requiring considerable knowledge and a thorough understanding of the various elements involved.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Previous work experience with the general public either as a volunteer or an employee.
Pursuing college study leading to a degree in Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Social Work, or associated areas.
Reasonable knowledge of social needs, habits, and characteristics of behavior.
Reasonable ability to counsel, instruct and control people.
Reasonable ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Reasonable ability to prepare routine reports.
Reasonable ability to cope with challenging situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with department policies and objectives.
Reasonable ability to develop and maintain effective communications with people.
Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees of this class must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and submit to a tuberculin skin test or chest x‑ray, at County expense, once a year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists professional public health employees at various locations throughout Oakland County.
Assists and provides information concerning available services and procedures to persons visiting or seeking aid at the Health Division.
At clinic/conference sites, may conduct routine laboratory tests, screening tests and/or performs selected physical measurements (e.g., height, weight, head circumference) as assigned.
Provides prior authorization screening for services.
Provides follow‑up regarding client services.
Follows‐up on selected children referred from programs to assure medical attention is provided for their problem.
Assists in organizing health education materials and audio‑visual aids and displays.
Participates in agency task force when appropriate.
Attends selected staff meetings and supervisory group meetings.
Attends staff meetings and in‑service education offerings for public health nursing groups.
Makes appointments for various services, codes visits, separates and organizes reports, maintains files and records, inventories supplies, and performs a variety of associated duties.
Assists professional staff in routine licensing and regulatory procedures.
Following established guidelines, assists professional staff in monitoring local agency management information system reports by reviewing computations.
Assists professional staff in monitoring local agency contract compliance following established guidelines.
Assists professional staff in ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of reports and data generated at both the local and central agency level following established procedures.
Assists the public by providing referrals and information such as phone numbers and locations of agencies.
Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate accurately to convey information.
Ability to operate and/or utilize typical office and medical office equipment and supplies.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical office/medical laboratory setting or out in the community.
May participate in activities that require driving or being a passenger in an automobile.
