Senior Cloud Software Engineer - Pre-trade (Gas & Power Industry)

Location: Houston (Hybrid – at least 3 days onsite/week)

Talan is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - AWS / Python to support a key client in the energy trading industry.
The role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable cloud applications and data services supporting pre-trade, market data, pricing, and analytics. AWS is the primary cloud platform and Python the main development language.
Key Responsibilities
Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
Develop backend services and automation in Python.
Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.
Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices.
Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs.
Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
10+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput, reliable ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.
5+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including services such as AWS S3, Glue, Redshift, Azure Data Factory, and BigQuery.
Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management, including AWS Glue environments.
Experience designing and developing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms, including ECS and EKS.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS certification preferred.
Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance
Nice to Have
Experience in energy trading, commodities, market data, pricing, or financial markets.
Microsoft Azure experience (Alternatively AWS)
Athena, or Redshift.
C#/.NET or React or Angular.
