The Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) Coordinator works with low income, first generation and/or academically disadvantaged high school students to provide opportunities for participants to develop social, study, and academic skills needed to become successful college students and attain their educational goals. goals. The Coordinator has the responsibility for implementation and support for the TRIO UBMS program. Through working directly with students, families, staff and community partners, the Coordinator creates a pathway to college and promotes college readiness through curriculum and special programming, especially focusing on STEM education. Additionally, the Coordinator plans, organizes and presents group workshops and events; teaches UBMS advisory courses; plans and supervises tutoring and participants' attendance at cultural events; and assists with the recruitment, selection, advising, mentoring and retention process for all participants.
This position is located at Alameda International Jr/Sr High School and will involve a significant amount of relationship building, independent and collaborative work with the high school, Mines and external partners. The UBMS Coordinator reports directly to the Director of UBMS.
This is a term limited position, currently funded through 8/31/27, with potential for extension.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate the implementation, oversight and evaluation all Upward Bound Math and Science grant program activities
Assist in recruiting and selection of participants per established eligibility criteria
Provide and/or coordinate direct support to 60 Upward Bound program participants
Assist in the development, delivery and promotion of engagement with curriculum, college preparedness activities and special events
Build relationships with appropriate Mines and Alameda International Jr/Sr High School administrative, academic faculty and support personnel
Assist in administrative operations, assessment of program and reporting, including gathering and maintaining data
Assist with engagements and communications involving local, regional, and national community agencies, transfer institutions and other external partners
Required Competencies
People skills: Develop professional and friendly relationships with students, faculty and staff, as well as community partners. Work effectively with students and families from target school. Create/sustain an inclusive learning environment for students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Marketing and communication: Recruit and retain students through the use of multiple media platforms and recruitment strategies.
Strong detail orientation: Keep appropriate statistics and develop assessments for continuous improvement.
Technological skills: Navigate technologies such as Banner, Slate platforms and other platforms utilized by Alameda International Jr/Sr High.
Supervisory and leadership skills: Provide training, guidance and direction to program staff, including tutors and summer staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited institution in education, counseling, STEM discipline, social work or related field.
Professional experience with students in an advising, mentoring, or leadership role.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, implementation and assessment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and communicate across a broad spectrum of constituents.
One year experience working directly with TRIO programs or similar program or experience.
Professional oral and writing communication skills, strong organizational and project management skills, strong public speaking skills and proficiency with computer software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as higher education administration, educational leadership, educational psychology, curriculum and development, etc.
One Year prior experience in designing, developing, managing and/or implementing TRIO, or similar, programs and student supports in a college or university setting.
Licensed teacher in Colorado with endorsement in secondary education
Bilingual – Spanish and English
