As a Shared Laboratory Resource Specialist IV in the Flow Cytometry Core, you will develop and expand the wet-lab services provided by the Shared Resource Laboratory. Responsibilities include performing sample processing, staining, and other laboratory procedures for investigator projects; developing, optimizing, and documenting SOPs and workflows; ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards; evaluating and implementing new wet-lab service opportunities; and operating and providing training on commonly used flow cytometers and cell sorters. Additionally, you will work closely with the Director to provide technical, operational, and administrative support while developing expertise in flow cytometry and shared resource management.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Be responsible for ensuring completion of assigned research projects, provide daily work oversight, execute research activities.
Oversee service workflow and provide consultation or other support to lab personnel, PIs, and Postdocs in executing procedures.
Assist in the development and implementation of new services and other laboratory research functions.
Guide the shared laboratory resource to ensure consistent, high quality service is conducted for the research community, and be responsible for the unit's compliance in regard to Institute, sponsor, and federal rules and regulations.
Plan, conduct, and evaluate experiments and assays of varying complexity.
May direct the work of junior employees in conducting experiments and assays.
Calculate, record, compile, and report data. Analyze and interpret data.
Provide analysis and insightful interpretation of results.
Develop new methods or customize protocols for users. Participate in testing of new protocols and services as appropriate for working area.
Ensure client billing information is complete and accurate.
Compile billing information for documenting usage and billing information into the Core's automated service tracking/billing system.
Develop cost analyses on services rendered by the Core. Assist in preparing cost quotes on experimental design requested by investigators.
Ensure that all work is accurately and completely documented.
Establish inventory levels and note usage trends so that inventory levels meet client demand. Ensure lab is prepared for service delivery.
Prepare and operate equipment for experiments, assays, measurements, etc.
Ensure the recommended maintenance on instrumentation and equipment is performed according to manufacturer and Institute guidelines. Troubleshoot equipment problems and mitigate issues with training and/or repair protocols.
Recommend equipment improvements and/or new equipment.
Assist in the development of usage protocols for new equipment.
Execute and facilitate delivery of specialized services.
Abide by all Institute, sponsor, and federal rules and regulations.
Train or assist in the training of technicians and trainees, including students.
Provide training to researchers in instrument and equipment operation.
Interact with both Core Staff and clients in the planning and execution of experiments/core services. Advise Principal Investigators as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field
Six years of related experience
OR
Master's degree in a relevant scientific field
Two years of related experience
OR
Ten years of directly related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Masters in a relevant scientific field preferred.
Certifications:
Certification in appropriate field may be required per department or core protocol within one year of hire.
Physical Requirements:
May be exposed to hazardous biological, vaporous and odorous materials
Manual and visual dexterity required.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Continuous lifting, standing and walking.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
