Turn Your Recovery Experience Into Professional Support for Others.
Your lived experience can be powerful—but as a Peer Recovery Specialist, you'll use that experience within a professional treatment environment to help others navigate their own recovery.
At Pyramid Healthcare New River Valley Inpatient, you'll work alongside a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide peer support, encourage treatment engagement, and help clients connect with resources that support recovery beyond treatment.
This role is about more than sharing your story. It's about using your experience professionally, maintaining appropriate boundaries, protecting confidentiality, and helping clients build their own path to recovery.
What You'll Do
Provide peer support using your lived experience to encourage recovery and treatment engagement
Build professional, supportive relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
Help clients connect with community resources and ongoing recovery support
Collaborate with counselors, nurses, and other members of the treatment team
Communicate client progress, concerns, and service needs to your supervisor
Maintain timely, accurate documentation of client and collateral contacts
Participate in peer record reviews and quality assurance activities
Maintain professional relationships with staff across disciplines
Communicate with referral sources as directed
Provide transportation to community resources and services when needed
Participate in assigned emergency and after-hours support activities, including crisis planning and hospital diversion
Protect client confidentiality and follow all organizational policies and professional standards
Complete required training and continuing education

Maintain healthy professional boundaries

Work effectively as part of a clinical team
Document services accurately and on time
Accept direction, feedback, and supervision
Remain calm and professional during challenging situations
Support clients without attempting to take over their recovery
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Registered or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification through the Virginia Board of Counseling at the Department of Health Professions — REQUIRED
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team
Position Details
📍 6226 University Park Drive, Radford, VA
💰 $15–$20/hour, based on experience and education
🕐 Part-time | 16–24 hours/week
📅 Weekend scheduling required
