Responsibilities:


JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist serves as a centralized coordination point where communication, technology, and rapid response converge to support safe and efficient operations across the organization. This role functions as a critical link between patients, staff, and emergency responders, ensuring all communications are managed with accuracy, urgency, and professionalism.
Operating within a high-reliability, fast-paced healthcare environment, the Communications Specialist is responsible for managing high-volume communications, coordinating emergency response activities, and leveraging advanced technology platforms. This position plays an essential role in maintaining situational awareness and supporting the organization's frontline response network, ensuring the safety and continuity of operations for patients, staff, and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communication & Coordination:
Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming and outgoing communications across the network
Manage high-volume calls, alarms, and system notifications with precision and professionalism
Coordinate communication between clinical staff, security, facilities, and emergency responders
Activate emergency response protocols and notifications in accordance with established procedures
Assist with onboarding and training of new staff members to ensure successful integration into the department and organization.
Emergency Response Support:
Monitor and respond to emergency and non-emergency situations in real time
Initiate and support incident command activation as directed
Coordinate dispatch of internal and external resources, including security and emergency services
Maintain clear, concise communication during critical events to support rapid decision-making
Technology & Systems Operations:
Utilize advanced communication and monitoring systems, including:
Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
Surveillance and access control platforms
Mass notification systems (e.g., alerts, paging, overhead communications)
AI-enabled tools supporting event detection and communication workflows
Monitor system alerts, alarms, and network events to identify potential risks or operational issues
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED Required
Associates Preferred
EXPERIENCE
Typing with speed and accuracy, minimum 40 words-per-minute Required
6 months, Radio dispatching experience Preferred
6 months, Call Center or Hospital operator experience Preferred
