Datalink Systems Test Engineer (h/f)

Job Description:
A vacancy for a DataLink Systems Test Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Commercial Aircraft in Toulouse. You will join a team composed of 20 persons within the Airbus Flight and Integration Tests center. This team is in charge of providing maturity statements of NAVIGATION, SURVEILLANCE and COMMUNICATION systems, following integration tests performed through Benches or Simulators, and Post Test Flights analysis.

Contribute to the Autonomy Research & Technology Roadmap for Single Pilot Operation
Develop New Tests solutions based on new technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence..) for testing the next aircraft generation (zero Emission, Single Pilot, Visual Based Landing…)
Decrease Aircraft Development timeframe while increase systems maturity before their deliveries to our customers
AIR-GROUND COMMUNICATION is a wide range of avionics systems such as HF and VHF radios, Satellite communications (SATCOM), Wireless (Cellular 3G/4G/5G, Wifi, Lifi..), Cockpit AUDIO systems, DATALINK systems and functions.
Powered by an experienced team and a business driven pioneer spirit, the Tests Centre gathers all engineering testing skills:
From the definition of the testing strategies
Lab test means design and validation (test rigs and aircraft simulators)
Lab test means and real aircrafts instrumentation
System integration in laboratory with real A/C equipments
Up to flight tests campaigns on the A320, A330, A350, A380 and A400M Airbus development aircrafts.
The Tests Centre is a transnational Center of Competence with teams in Filton, Hamburg, Bremen, Toulouse and Bangalore.
Inside the Tests Centre, you will join the department specialized in integration of many avionics systems such as Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, Communications, Navigation and Surveillance systems, Flight Management System, Cockpit Displays and Flight Warning systems, Maintenance and Flight Operations systems as well as cyber and physical security.
The Datalink function is in charge of ensuring exchange of messages between the aircraft and the Air Traffic Control or between the aircraft and the airline. It is based on a router which interact with various onboard applications and communication means for Air/ground data exchanges. Therefore it involves many systems and communication protocols such as ACARS (Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System), ATN (Aeronautical Traffic Network), Arinc 429 and Arinc 619.
Tasks & accountabilities
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
Defining testing strategy (Lab and Flight)
Defining and development follow up of test means and tools and required instrumentation
Designing test procedures including automatic testing and/or virtual testing when appropriate
Executing test campaigns on Lab test rigs and A/C Simulators
Defining flight test campaigns procedures with flight crew and analyse flight test results
Participating to the development and maturity of latest innovative Datalink aspects driven for AIRBUS future cockpit policies such as introduction of ATN over SATCOM or IP based communications for safety services (ATN/IPS).
This activities include close interactions with many stakeholders:
Avionics systems testers: FANS, FMS, CMS, ACMS, AOC, FOMAX…
Communication means testers: VHF, SATCOM, HF
Supplier, Design Office and Flight test crew
Datalink service providers: SITA, ARINC
This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
You will have the following skills and experience:
Educated to master degree level (or equivalent) in Systems, Telecommunication or a related discipline
Strong interest for Technical activities
Open minded & agile
IT & Network knowledge would be a plus
Advanced level of English.
