PV Field Testing Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a PV Field Testing Engineer based in United States.
This is a remote, field-based engineering opportunity supporting utility-scale and commercial solar photovoltaic projects across the United States.
The role focuses on onsite PV testing, inspections, audits, commissioning verification, and technical troubleshooting.
You will analyze field data and contribute to clear, accurate technical reporting that supports project quality and performance.
The position involves close collaboration with clients, site representatives, colleagues, and other technical professionals.
You will also visit PV manufacturing facilities to support quality-control audits and assess equipment and processes.
Success requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to operate effectively in demanding field environments.
Frequent travel is integral to the position, with time away from home potentially reaching approximately 80% of the working schedule.
Accountabilities
Travel to client locations throughout the United States to perform solar PV system and component inspections, testing, audits, and commissioning verification.
Execute field activities in accordance with applicable technical, commercial, safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
Perform PV testing activities such as I-V curve tracing, Megger testing, infrared scanning, visual inspections, and multimeter measurements.
Analyze field and test data, identify issues or performance concerns, and contribute to accurate, well-structured technical reports.
Troubleshoot technical issues encountered during testing and commissioning and coordinate appropriate resolutions with onsite stakeholders.
Support safe testing practices, effective data management, and quality-control procedures during PV inspections.
Coordinate activities with client representatives, site personnel, and internal technical teams to ensure projects remain aligned with expectations and schedules.
Use, maintain, and appropriately handle specialized testing equipment, tools, and field devices.
Conduct quality-control audits at PV manufacturing facilities as required.
Communicate project findings, observations, and recommendations clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or another relevant four-year engineering or science discipline.
Understanding of PV module components, solar photovoltaic systems, and their operating principles.
Experience in PV testing or inspection, operations and maintenance, electrical work, or related experience with commercial and/or utility-scale PV systems is preferred.
Practical experience with I-V curve tracing, Megger testing, infrared scanning, visual inspection, multimeter use, and safe commissioning or inspection practices.
Experience interpreting electroluminescence (EL) images, I-V curve traces, or PV module and cell testing data is an advantage.
NABCEP certification is preferred.
OSHA 10/30 certification, fall-protection training, arc-flash training, lockout/tagout experience, and knowledge of specialized protective equipment are desirable.
Strong analytical, organizational, record-keeping, and problem-solving abilities, with close attention to data accuracy and technical detail.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to coordinate effectively with clients and distributed teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment and coordinating across different time zones.
Willingness and physical ability to work outdoors in demanding conditions, including desert and winter environments, nighttime assignments, extended periods of standing, and climbing stairs and ladders.
Ability to travel up to approximately 80% of the time and maintain a valid passport.
Ability to meet applicable employment requirements, including any required pre-employment drug screening.
